    3. I checked WorldCat. Margaret Sanderson's *The People of Sixteenth Century Ayrshire" is available in 5 libraries: Cornell University Library (Ithaca, NY), Trinity College Dublin, University of Aberdeen, University of Strathclyde Anderson Library, and Cambridge University Library. If anyone is near one of these libraries they could take a look for the book. 3. Dear Deb and others, This is a totally different book but looking to be interesting in any event and appears to be available through various sellers at varying degrees of condition and pricing. http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/SearchResults?kn=Scottish+rural+society+in+the+sixteenth+century&sts=t I checked through abebooks.com as they do a total availability search and see that there are many books listed through the author Margaret H.B. Sanderson but not The People of the Sixteenth Century Ayrshire. Also, I browsed through eBay as I have had good luck on Ayrshire book searches and it is possible to put the name of the book you are interested in as well as the author on your feed from eBay and they will contact when available. This is how I was fortunate enough to have found George Robertson’s genealogical account of Cunninghame dated 1820 many years ago. This can also be done through Amazon.com, both of which I am requesting notification should Margaret Sanderson’s book on 16th Century Ayrshire become available at any time. You just never know when one will become available for resale. My best to all, Linda --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. https://www.avast.com/antivirus

    3. Hi Linda, This is a good document. It looks like it might compliment Margaret Sanderson's *The People of Sixteenth Century Ayrshire* which unfortunately is out of print at the moment. I notice that on p. 5 it talks about *The People of Seventeenth Century Ayrshire*. I think the 'Seventeenth' should by 'Sixteenth'. By the way, Derek (DMT - see his email address) has drafted a letter to one of the societies to see if the '*People of Sixteenth Century Ayrshire*' could be reprinted hopefully as a pdf hopefully payable at a small charge. Several prominent people, such as the Boyds are mentioned (see pps. 27, 33, 39, 51, 55, 58, 59, and 60). There is even an Elizabeth Gillies mentioned on p. 60 and a mention of a John Cornelius; these names are of particular interest since my cousins and I since we are researching the Shields, Gillies, Craigs (ppg 60,) and Cornelius families (p. 59). 3. Hello Debbie, Thank you as well for your post re Margaret Sanderson’s, The People pf the Sixteenth Century to the Ayr List last week. Following your post I did some searching as to her work and came up with this link in within the Kilwinning Heritage site. I would imagine that along with you Debbie that many will find surnames of interest as mentioned within the document, I know I did as well. The very interesting and informative information in regards to the Abbey’s Communion Silver, along with the photograph showing these beautiful pieces would be of particular interest to our Mike Boyd and other Boyd descendants. This document allows a wealth of information for surname sourcing as well as a very interesting history of Kilwinning . Many thanks goes to Andy Baird of Kilwinning Heritage and all those that allowed permission to reproduce the out of print booklet for us to enjoy. Hopefully Derek will be successful in his pursuit for a reprint of Margaret Sanderson’s work, possibly in PDF, thank you Derek for taking up the cause on this as many of us would not object to a nominal charge for access to the work. 3. Hi Mike, Have you ever heard of a little booklet called The People of Sixteenth Century Ayrshire by Margaret H.B. Sanderson? It was put together by the Ayrshire Archaeological and Natural History Society and was based on the Buchan Lecture of 1985. It was sponsored by The Society of Antiquaries of Scotland and delivered to The Ayrshire Federation of Historical Societies by Margaret. I have tried to get additional copies but to no avail. The book is really helpful as Margaret researched different parishes in Ayrshire in the 16th C. and informs the reader where each (important) person was actually living. For example, within the Parish of Kilmarnock Alexander Boyd was shown living at East Craig while Archibald Boyd lived at West Craig. It shows James Auchinloss (Assloss) as living at Assloss with James Fyar and James Smith. A Widow Boyd lived at Dalsraith and a Janet Boyd was at Little Dean. I don't know what the laws are about copying this, however it's no longer in print. It's small enough that sending you copies wouldn't be too much trouble - as long as we keep quiet! Unfortunately, this booklet is not available right now... and don't know if it will in the future; my copy of the book is falling apart and so I that's why I know it's not available. When you go to Kilmarnock please make sure that you go to the Burns Centre as well as to the Dick Institute. You should be able to find records there. Sometimes there are family history folders in the bookshelf at the Burns - just outside the computer one. The centre is closed on Mondays. Unfortunately, they lost their archivist quite a few months ago which means that you can't access certain records such as the Valuation Rolls. Hope this helps. 3. Thanks Margaret - just googled East Ayrshire council - http://www.east-ayrshire.gov.uk/CouncilAndGovernment/BirthMarriageAndDeath/Deaths/Cemeteries-and-memorials/CemeteriesAndMemorials.aspx. BereavementServices@east-ayrshire.gov.uk - don't know if this is for modern day graves or not. Here's another site - https://www.deceasedonline.com/servlet/GSDOSearch. I've never used the site so I have no idea if it's good or bad. I know that in Irvine there is a guy by the name of Billy Kerr who perhaps maintains the Irvine Parish Church or maybe has recorded the gravestones. So there must be someone in Killie who would do the same. All the best, Debbie On 26 August 2015 at 23:36, The Pools <p.ml.pool@xtra.co.nz> wrote: > Hi > > St Andrews church is no longer it has been converted into apartments I > think. 3. Hi, According to the Kilmarnock & Loudoun District Monumental Inscriptions pre 1855 by Alastair G. Beattie there are/were four chuchyards in Kilmarnock: High Kirk, Laigh Kirk, Kilmarnock Cemetery and St. Andrews churchyard. If you need to contact me please at deborah.rea94@gmail.com. I live in England and go up to Ayrshire every year to do research (however, I'm originally from CT). 3. This is to advise members of all these lists that might live in the Portland, Oregon, area (or near by) that I will be visiting on the above dates to look for Boyd family tree at your Multmonth County Library 801 SW 10th Avenue and the Oregon Historical Society on Tuesday afternoon when it opens. I have been going nearly every years since 2004 to both Ireland and Scotland I am quite happy to put an hour aside on Tuesday evening 1 September 2015 at 6.00 pm to talk to anyone who may wish to go to Scotland and Ireland for the first time about traveling there; how to start going your family tree (although I assume if you are on these lists you are well past that stage) and some of the research facilities that are available in both Scotland and Ireland, especially Northern Ireland. If you have any Boyd – both male and female – in your tree I would like to be able to collect those trees form you as well, so I can add it to the 760 other Boyd Family Chapters in the Clan Boyd Pyramid. In 1993 I completed Volume 1 of Clan Boyd of Scotland and have filled a further 10 Volumes which I have to get time to edit. I will be staying at the Downtown Value Inn, 415 SW Montgomery St., Portland - so lets hope there is some space that we can meet near reception. Thank you Mike Boyd Chairman Historical Committee House of Boyd Society Brisbane, Aust.

    3. Hi Mike, I am still working on 'our/Bruce Shields/Ann Frew Wyllie*'s Boyd families and am hoping to get you something for when you will be meeting my cousin Rosemary Cryer on Thursday. Have you heard about the Boyds of Swepston? I can't remember if Bruce or even Ken Cuthbertson (of New Mexico, USA) sent it to me - or even you; the Alexander Boyd (16 August 1743 Irvine, d. 11 August 1801 Boydton, Mecklenburg County, Virginia, USA) it talks about is related to us. I've included it here - perhaps Rosemary can print it out for you? It's still a work in progress document. Ann doesn't use a laptop or anything hence now email address for her.
