    3. Hi Alan, Jenny and Irene, I can't see any connection to my Goldies - yet. I have a Hugh Goldie back in the 1780s married to Elizabeth Kay. As far as I know they only had daughters (Douglas - a girl born 1789, Jean 1788, Margaret 1804 and Elizabeth 1809) BUT I keep hoping that a Hugh Goldie born in the 1700s might turn up. How old was the Hugh Goldie in Sussex, Jenny? Cheers, Mary Bigger. Stronger. Faster. Sign up for a New Free Email Account at http://MyEmail.com

    3. Hi Alan, On the 1851 for Sorn there's an Alexander Goldie, aged 53, hand loom weaver born New Milns, Ayrshire. he has a wife Marget and children Andrew, Mary Janet Jean Elizabeth Agnes and granddaughter Marget Morrison. All except the last two born New Milns and they were born Catrine. There's a gap between Andrew 34 and Mary 23 so I would guess there were other sons and daughters - possibly another Alexander or Alan. I'd be very interested in any replies you get for this question as I have rather elusive Goldies in Ayrshire. Cheers, Mary Bigger. Stronger. Faster. 3. Carol For this area you will need to contact the Burns Centre at Kilmarnock in the East Ayrshire Council area. About 30 years that had a work program that recorded the inscriptions in all their Cemeteries. They may have to work out which Churchyard is closet to to Orchard. If you know what religion they were that might help them to find it as well. 3. Carol, for maps of the time go to the National Library of Scotland website and search for maps and also Wynd Farm Galston. In present times these old farms have be subdivided a number of times to create housing estates. Back in the 1700-1800s they were often owned by Dukes and Lords etc many small cottages were built for the workers to live in if they worked the estate, not so many of them remain today. Carol, to most probably answer some of you questions, search the familysearch.org catalogue online to see if the Kirk Sessions for Mauchline and Galston have been filmed, if so order the films to come in to your closest LDS centre. Usually fines to the Parochial board and persons coming before the Congregation for illegitimacy and fornication between parties is in these Minutes. As for baptisms even if the two parties are married mostly you will find he woman recorded with her maiden surname. 1. [AYR] Who was Christian, neice of Lord Boyd who married David Boyle of Segdeth?
    2. Mike Boyd via
    3. In the book A Genealogical Account of the Principal Families in Ayrshire, more particulary in Cunninghame, Vol. I, George Robertson, 1823, page 131, it said: “XI. Grizel Boyle, who succeeded her father in Kelburn. She marired a near relative David Boyle of Hawkhill, descended from the family thus:- 1. John, second son of No IV. was designed “of Ballahewin” in 1536, married Christian, daughter of Wallace of Cairnhill, by whom he had a son, 2. David of Segdeth in 1578, who married Christian, neice of Lord Boyd, by whom he had, 3. James of Hawkhill, in 1617, who married Margaret, daughter of David Crawfurd of Bedland, by whom he had the above David Boyle of Hawkhill, three sons, and one daughter: 1. John; 2. James of Montgomerieston; 3. Patrick. The daughter was Grizel, and she was married to William Wallace of Shewlton. He died in 1672, and was succeeded by his eldest son, “ Mike Boyd’s notes:- (1) The date 1578. Is this the date that David of Segdeth was born or his marriage date? MY GUESS, from the way this is written, it is David’s date of birth. So do others agree or disagree! (2) “neice of Lord Boyd”. Is this term, as we understand it today, that she would be the daughter of this Lord Boyd’s brother or sister? Or could it mean that she was a more distant relative? This will need to be worked out to determine which Boyd Cadet Branch this Christian belonged to. (3) “David of Segdeth in 1578, who married Christian, neice of Lord Boyd”. The second problem is to determine WHAT TIME PERIOD we might be talking about. Is it 1578 – when it is assumed that David was born - or some later period when she was married in about 1615? (4) If the time period is 1578, this would mean that “Lord Boyd” was “Robert Boyd, fifth Lord Boyd, bc 1517, d 1589”. This Lord Boyd only had a sister, Margaret Boyd, whom Burke’s said married John Montgomerie of Lainshaw, the third son of the first Earl of Earl of Eglinton, eldest son John Montgomery. However, they did not have any children, so the “neice Christian” could not come from this Margaret Boyd. Or does it mean that this Lord Robert Boyd had more than one sibling? (5) However, if we are talking about 1615. This would put it in the period of the Robert Boyd, seventh Lord Boyd, (1595 – 1628), who succeed his grandfather. This Lord Boyd, is listed as only having a brother James Boyd who became the 9th Lord Boyd and he had no daughters that married a Boyle. So I can only conclude that this “neice Christian” was more distant than a single generation from which ever Lord Boyd was being referred to. (6) The next problem is Christian’s surname, Boyd or some other name? So are there any David Boyle of Segdeth (in 1578) researchers out there. (7) When I looked at the International Genealogical Index for the UK (1994 edition), I could not find any entry for a “Christian Boyd” even though there were entries for Christian Boyd prior to 1600 A. D. However, I did find few entries with Boyle. Katherine BOYD (F)......... 3. Carol "Usually" in Scotland when a location is give - such as "Wynd" or "Orchard" - would be an Estate or farm. I know of an Orchard Estate at West Kilbride, but I suspect that is not your area. You may need to look at some of the map sites for the Galston area in East Ayrshire or the area further south towards Ayr town. If I recall, Adamson Family had an estate in the Monkton area where Prestwick Airport is now. So what do you know about Agnes Adamson and her parents - especially social status, occupation, etc Do you know why she was called Sara Wallace, when he mother Agnes Adamson was not married to Robert Wallace? Oh, what do you know about this Robert Wallace; his parents and his own family and other children? Have you tried the Clan Wallace people? 1. [AYR] Archbishop Robert Boyd of Trochrig, gravein Glasgow Cathedral
    2. Mike Boyd via
    3. Recently when I was at the Burns Centre at Kilmarnock, I found a reference that said “Robert Boyd, Archbishop of Glasgow buried in the choir of the Cathedral and in the same sepulchre as Bishop Gavin Dunbar.” A few days later when I was in Glasgow, I went to the Cathedral and walked around the “PRESENT” choir area, but I could not see any Sepulchres, let alone one with his name on it. This burial took place in the early 1600’s, so when this reference was written was the Choir in a different place in the Cathedral? Or is this reference wrong an Archbishop Boyd was not buried in the Choir area of the Cathedral? As anyone got any information where he might be buried in Glasgow Cathedral? By the way, I think that Bishop Gavin Dunbar was a distant cousin. Thank you Mike boyd
