They had sons David Noble b. 1833 (Dalkeith)and James dob. July 12, 1838 (Edinburgh). By 1842-44 they had all emigrated to Cumberland County, Nova Scotia, Canada. Author: jonndean Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.scotland.ayr.general/13911.2.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello Kim, If you are looking for the birth of Maxwell Beattie, there is only one in Ayrshire, in the timeframe you are talking about, that was 1924. in Ayr, Ayr. There is also a marriage in Ayr, Ayr. 1920, for a Francis Beattie, and a Jean McCormack. However there does not seem to be a middle name of Gallacher, or other spelling of that name for Francis Beattie, in the marriage, or a middle name of Gallacher, or other spelling of that name on the birth of Maxwell Beattie. Its most likely the above details are your family, i am only mentioning this information to let you know that when you search on Scotlandspeople, you will only get a result when your information that you insert in the search is exactly that on the certificate, or index of the certificate. ie her name is Jean, on the index not Jane. John Scott and Margaret McRee (no other info on them) daughter Mary Scott married James Gibson April 1855 William Guthrie Gibson (father maybe Alexander Gibson) wife was Ann Weir her parents were Robert Weir and Ann McKindlay children Lillis, James and Robert James married Mary Scott These people were my ggg grandparents and gg grandparets I think. James and Mary Scott Gibson's daughter was named Anna Weir Gibson. (I think she was named after her grandfather Robert Weir and that is how I tied her to William Guthrie and Ann Weir Gibson.) Anna married Henry Hercules Switzer. They were my gg grandparents. I have found lots of information but would like to find some other relatives to talk with to prove what I think is true on these families. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. They seem to be the children of William McCormick (Coal Trimmer)and Annie McCormick (who was from Tarbolton). The family is in the 1881 Census, with John at age 16, occup: Taylor, and Thomas, then age 7, along with lots of brothers and sisters. As the other Irene said, you can acquire the records easily from www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk and the cost is very reasonable. 3. My thanks to Bill, Heather and Irene for their very quick response to my query re the above occupation (Free Stow) shown on the 1841 census. As they have suggested, my grt grandfather was no doubt a "freestone cutter" working in a quarry - the 1851 census indicates he was a "labourer/quarrier". I am grateful to all for your help.
