Harrison, I have a Janet Kerr who married Thomas Callan c1792 in Sanquhar. When Thomas died in 1826 his wife was stated as Janet Carr. Perhaps, in other instances, Kerr appeared as Carr. Maybe worth a thought. Spelling varied a lot back then. Names were often written just as the person writing them thought they sounded. Janet

My limited understanding is that the Montgomery of Giffen were a senior Cadet of that family and may have married back into the central stem of the family ie a male Montgomery of Giffen married a female heiress of the Earl's family and thus become the Earl. If you have anything scanned I would love a copy, you could send them to my email address if you like. (renee.talbot@deedi.qld.gov.au) Where abouts do you live now? I looked at the tree I am creating on http://logiefamily.tribalpages.com and it seems that I must have some errors. I have Barbara Harkness marriage a generation down and now I have totally confused myself. Take a look at the tree if you like and let me know what it is that is wrong. I've done a little more online but haven't tried to branch out too much on the Loggies. Anyhow, don't let the spelling changes bother you, their the same family, spellings sometimes change over time whithin families or depending on who wrote down the information. I just logged onto my scotlandspeople.gov.uk account and ran a couple searches for you. Dec 23,1881 marriage record between: Agnes Logie (19 yrs, domestic servant, parents: William Logie - coal miner & Barbara Logie i.e. Harkness) John Maxwell (28 yrs, ploughman, parents: John Maxwell - shepherd (deceased) & Helen Maxwell i.e. Ferguson) Feb 17 ?, 1857 marriage record between: Barbara Harkness (22 yrs, parents: James Harkness - peddler & Esther Wilson his wife) William Loggie (20 yrs, parents: John Logie - miner & Elisabeth Logie Blythe) This John Logie is the son of William Loggie and Jean Goldie in the early 1800's. I come down through John Loggie and Elizabeth Allison Blythe Loggie's daughter, Jean Goldie Loggie so I've gotten about as far back as everyone else before the trail goes cold. Hi Nyle, The Robert Donald in the 1851 Census married to Jane Galbraith was a GGG Uncle of mine. He was born in 1818 to Robert Donald and Ann McQualter (the Ann in the Census). I believe the family moved to Ireland sometime between 1857 and 1860, which is why you didn't find a death date for Jane. Several of the Donald men, including Robert's brothers David and William, did move to NZ around that time. They are buried at Greymouth. Where was your Robert living?.I have 5 Robert Donalds from Ayrshire in my tree but none married to an Ann Wyllie. Sorry I couldn't help more. Best wishes, Wendy Biddle Sydney Australia
Hi All, I'm looking for the parents and siblings of Jane or Jean Kerrr, who married James Ritchie 27 May 1832 in Sanquhar, Dumfries. They lived in Kirkconnel. The 1851, 1861 and 1871 census says Jane was born at Muirkirk. The 1851 census says she was born about 1811. The 1871 Census says about 1809. I have seven of their children (James, Helen, John, Gilbert, William, David, and Margaret Crichton Ritchie), but I need to know Jane's parents and siblings. I've looked on the familysearch/IGI, but can't seem to identify her specifically there. thanks, Harrison McKnight

I tried to send an email. but it bounced back; Yes I have found that Jean GOLDIE married William LOGGIE, that is as far back as I have been able to go. I believe that Jean was born in Scorn from what I have found. It is all very confusing because in some records Loggie is spelt with one G or sometimes with two. Do you have many more information that I may be interested in? Occupations? I also believe that they had 7 children; (I have the names and dates - not sure if you would like them) Thanks Renee Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
