Hi, I have an Ann McKAY who married James AITKEN in 1827 in Midlothian. According to the 1851 census she was born in Dailly Ayrshire. According to her death certificate in 1865 (she died in Renfrew) her parents were Daniel McKay and Ann McGregor and she was born around 1805. >From the IGI (and I know it is not complete) the closest I can find is 1803 to Donald McKay and Ann Frazer. Is anyone researching MCKAY from Dailly Ayrshire?? I would love some help! I have a lot on the AITKEN family. Thank you Regards, Pat Wade (Nee King) Melb, Vic

Mary, consistently states on all census that she was born in Lanark, an entirely different county from Ayr. I also think this is a very good possibility this is her birth, Mary Wallace, born 25/March/1804. Lanark, to parents Richard Wallace, and Janet McKay, who were married 04/June/1797, Carstairs, Lanark. Also if you look at Scottish naming patterns, John Morton, and Mary Wallace's, second son was named Richard, also their first daughter Janet, also fits in with the naming pattern. To prove who Mary Wallace's, parents were you should purchase her death certificate of 1886. Loudoun, Ayr. this should supply those names provided who ever registered her death knew those details, you can get this certificate at Scotlandspeople, for a small fee online. In 1881. Mary, is living at 6 Isles Street, Loudoun, Ayr,as a Widow, but her unmarried son Richard, is living with her, so there is a good chance he registered her death. Children born (and living) to George & Catherine from the 1871 census in Borthwick, Midlothian. Robert age 21 b Borthwick Jessie age 17 b Tranent Thomas age 15 b Cranston William age 12 b Cranston Mary age 8 b Cranston Cathrine age 6 b Trewick George age 1 b Borthwick In the 1861 census, Jessie is named Janet. There is no Margaret in either census. You might never find a birth record as it might not have been recorded. Parishes seemed to have gotten careless as the date of government recordkeeping approached. -- Jo-Ann Croft

Hello list, I am wondering if anyone can help me please. George Crookston b 1823 Cranston, Midllothian, married 1848 Catherine Johnstone. They had Margaret (Jessie) born abt 1852 . I can't find a birth for Jessie anywhere, she married Charles Douglas 1875 Galashiels, which I have the marrage certificate for, she is believed to have died 1889 Kilmarnock. Jessie (margaret) seems to be my missing link, other siblings to George and Catherine are that I'm aware of. Thomas Crookston born June 1855 William Crookston born Sept 1859 Any help would be appreciated Thanks Christine
Nicola There is this entry in the 1994 IGI for the UK:- Helen BOYD (F)............... B: Abt 1828 B: 25 Sep 1959 SLAKE F#: 446178 @ Spouse: John CRAWFORD Ayr, Ayr, Scotland E: 14 Oct 1959 SLAKE SP: Pre-1970 O#: 96145 The way this entry is formatted would suggest it is an Crawford family tree rather than a Boyd tree. It would well both asking your local LDS Church centre if they have or can get you Batch Number 446178 to view to see how far back it goes. There does not appear to be an marriage entry for this couple in the 1994 IGI or the 1981 IGI for Scotland. I would estimate a marriage in the late 1840's or early 1850's most likely in Ayr town. Hello all, What follows truly belongs in the 'long-shot' file of probabilities; but it could be that Margaret CARNOCHAN, father David, is a sister to 'my' Mathew CARNOCHAN who is father of the Marion in the subject line of recent previous postings. #3 Margaret fits with the Margaret sent by Bill, and #7 'my' Mathew - who names his second son David - his first son Charles after his wife's father.
