    3. 'Delated' means 'accused' or 'denounced'. However I wonder if it may be 'working their hose' - they may have been weavers or hosiers. I'm following these with interest, hoping for names I'll recognise, and looking through archives for the ones before I joined this list .. Thanks Jim! Jenny PS nae Gaelic here, just Scots and the odd legal-Latin phrase (pro secundo - for the second time)

    3. Have ADAMs in my line in Kilmarnock. John ADAM, Blacksmith was born there in 1830 to John ADAM [1798-?] and Mary COWAN. Don't have any links further back for the elder John ADAM. The IGI is not a help with them, seems few of this family registered births or marriages and I understand other Kilmarnock families didn't register their children either. We found parent's names when the Blacksmith son John died in Glasgow, 1908. Are Any Monumental Inscriptions published for Kilmarnock ? Meg Greenwood / Oklahoma USA -------------------------------

    3. Here are definitions from http://www.dsl.ac.uk/dsl/index.html: 1. Delation means an accusation, informing against, or denouncement. 2. Variant spellings of the verb "walk" included "wak" or "wake" and definitions included: (1) to be or remain awake, esp. at or all night (2) to wake up or awaken from sleep (3) to keep watch over, guard 3. Hose means: (1) a stocking; or stockings of mail as part of a suit of armour (2) the sheath enclosing an ear of corn (3) the neck of a golf-club, where the head is fitted into the shaft With regard to "hose" definition (2), the dictionary also gives this example of usage from Ayr. (Aug.) 1802 Farmer's Mag. 390: "Opening the socket, or hose, as it is called, when the number of grains are all formed and just ready to appear." I wonder if it's possible the offense with which the men were accused was guarding their ripening corn instead of being in church. 3. A marriage certificate for Andrew's 2nd marriage (31 December 1858 in Australia) gives his parents as John JOHNSTON (shoemaker) and Margaret DAW(DALL). Andrew was widowed in August 1858 and had 7 living children, 3 had died. I have not found when Andrew emigrated, his first marriage or his death, though his widow remarried in June 1863 in Australia. Does anyone have any information about Andrew's siblings, marriage or children? Hopefully, Yvonne

    1. [AYR] Elizabeth Muir - the final chapter.
    2. We have been searching for the parents of Elizabeth Muir born c1810 Ayrshire, married 1844 to John Whiteford of Willowyard, Beith, and mother of Margaret Whiteford born 1845, Beith. Elizabeth Muir died between October 1845 and Census 1851. The Whiteford family appears not to have used any form of naming pattern, so it is difficult to know if Margaret, daughter of Elizabeth Muir, was named after Elizabeth's mother. And the death/burial record for Elizabeth has not survived. The journey has been frustrating - (see list message re SAFHS publication), enriching - communicating with those who have given so much time to helping us, and disappointing in that the puzzle likely will remain unsolved. Endless creative and intensive researching has gone into our efforts, and while we will not entirely give up searching, we wish to say a sincere thank you to all who have helped us along the way. Your time and kindness has been greatly appreciated and we will endorse that appreciation by trying to help other listers. Lynne and Nyle

Grandparents: John Skeoch (d. bef 4 jun 1890), Coalminer (prob. also 85 Denmark Street) as brother John (witness marr.) was also at this address; & Elizabeth Gebbie (?). Grandparents: James Rankine, Coalminer & Elizabeth McConnell. James Skeoch also had another brother John (b. 1890) who died at 2 years of age, i think; in addition to the 2 sisters mentioned as stepdaghters (to Thomas Black)in the Scottish 1901 Census. As one family tree indicates James went to Quebec, i think it was the wrong one for me. anyway, all the best, mandiwand. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. I hope that John Martin from Gateway also gets this message. Margaret In the earely 1990's I was givne this information about this william Boyd from a member of his family. T4 James Boyd, C 29/3/1788, d 29/12/1852 (Berryhill), bu Fenwick kirkyard, m 22/12/1823 (Kilmarnock), Agnes Scouler, dau of James and Agnes (Young) Scouler, b 1798, d 25/3/1896 (Dean St. Kilmarnock), bu Fenwick kirkyard, and had issue:- [Lived: ] - The 1981 International Genealogical Index for Scotland, has an entry for a James Boyd , with same parents, born at Kilmarnock on the same date as above. >From the 1994 IGI for the UK:- James BOYD (M).............. B: 29 Mar 1788 B: 16 Jan 1971 LANGE Ba: 7005510 68 Father: William BOYD Kilmarnock, Ayr, Scotland E: 17 Jun 1971 LANGE So: 538352 Mother: Margaret WALKER SP: 11 Jan 1972 LANGE U1 William Boyd, b 22/3/1824 (Berryhill), d 5/6/1891 (Kilmarnock), m 28/1/1851 (Fenwick), Mary Dickie, dau of Peter and Janet (nee Murchland) Dickie, b 1826, d 24/6/1868 (Ditton farm, Riccarton, Ayr), bu Fenwick kirkyard, and had issue:- [Lived: late of Dean St., Kilmarnock, Scotland ] - The 1981 International Genealogical Index for Scotland, has entry for a William Boyd , with same parents, born at Kilmarnock. There is a separate entry for William and Mary's marriage at Fenwick on 28/6/1851. - After William's father James (T4) died at Berryhill in 29/12/1852, he and Mary went to Berryhill after that date from Greystone Knowe farm Fenwick (From Censuses - 1851?). William was forced to sell Berryhill farm about 1861-1862 due to acute financial problems. The family then moved to Ditton farm, Riccarton, Ayr. I would think that with such a young family it is likely that William married a second time. I have a large tree for the Boyd part of this family. The stange part it seems that they lived in later life in Kilmarnock but were buried in the Churchyard at Fenwick. Hope that this will answer your question.
