Valerie, You are lucky. This is another one for Meg Greenwood as your couple had a child in 1855, so I have cc'd her on this post. James CURRIE, b. 14 January 1855 in Ayr, Ayrshire to William CURRIE and Elizabeth SPENCE. Meg can supply you with the transcript of the birth registration which will give you info on the parents. -- Jo-Ann Croft > Hi, I am looking for information on my ggg grandfather William Currie. Hi Valerie, Can you give us Elizabeth's birth year & place? Also William & his wife Elizabeth's approx age? Makes it a bit easier when searching census records. Thanks Lorraine Cairns -----Original Message----- From: ayrshire-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:ayrshire-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Valerie Szabo Sent: Sunday, 14 March 2010 10:44 PM To: AYRSHIRE@rootsweb.com Subject: [AYR] William Currie
I searched for William & Elizabeth CURRIE/Y using the * and "all districts" which came up with 55 hits. Sandy, Glentrool > > (iv) and finally what spelling variations have you looked in the Census > under Currie?
Hi, I am looking for information on my ggg grandfather William Currie. According to the IGI, this couple had a child in 1855 named Alexander Milne STEELE. That year was the first year of Civil Registration and more questions were asked of the Informant than in any year since then. Some questions when registering a birth in 1855 were when and where they were married, the parent's ages at this birth and WHERE EACH PARENT WAS BORN. The Family History Center where I volunteer has this information on film for all 1855 Births, Marriages and Deaths. I will look this one up and post details to this Message Board. Below are the IGI listings for the children of James STEELE and Grace Fraser ROBERTSON all in Banff so I'll leave the county and country off the entries, only the Parish name will be given. Ann seems to be the only child you know of that's not here. 1. ELIZABETH STEEL - Birth: 24 OCT 1850 Gamrie. 2. JOHN HENDRY STEELE - Birth: 09 JUL 1867 Banff. 3. MARY STEELE - Birth: 06 MAY 1857 Banff. 4. WILLIAM STEELE - Birth: 25 JUN 1864 Banff. 5. JAMES STEELE - Birth: 14 FEB 1862 Banff. 6. ALEXANDER MILNE STEELE - Birth: 21 MAR 1855 Banff. 7. HUGH NAIRN ROBERTSON STEELE - Birth: 31 MAR 1859 Banff. Give me a day or 2 and I'll post Hugh's birth data. They had 8 children:- Elizabeth, Ann, Alexander, Mary, Hugh, James, William and John. He died in 1886 at Blairshinnoch farm, Banff, and I am trying to find out where he was born, the names of any siblings, and his mother's name. I believe his father's name may have been Robert, but there was no name for his mother on his death certificate. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Also there is a J Walsh and wife and a John Conway on the ships list in 1812. If this is the kind of inforamtion that you are looking for let me know and I can point you in the right direction There is no family connection but I do dabble in research of the Hudson Bay families and the setttlers of the Red River Settlement. Hello, I have a Margaret Henderson in my Ramage family tree in Sorn, Ayrshire, however she was born in Lanarkshire in the early to mid 1700's so she is probably not the one you are researching. She was married to James Ramage circa early 1770's, they had 5 children before she died in circa 1788 in cildbirth. Keep in mind that not all records existed. People had to pay to record births and to marry in church or record an irregular (but legal) marriage. And not all records survived - mold, mice, bugs, fire, etc. The records were kept in the sexton or minister's home and diasters happened. They operate a strict code of practice and researchers usually have to do a probationary period. Their basic charge is £20 an hour (this includes any fees the researcher has to pay to access records). Usually it is a matter of negotiating a budget before the research is undertaken. Visit: www.asgra.co.uk for details. Of course there are a hundred acts of kindness members of boards and lists undertake for others at a distance. However, you do have to be lucky enough to find someone who happens to be researching the same family or parish.
