Branan Michael, age 57 years, Kilmarnock, Ayr, Branan Agnes, age 42 years, Kilmarnock, Ayr, Branan Patrick, age 18 years, Kilmarnock, Ayr, Branan Margaret, age 16 years, Kilmarnock, Ayr, Branan Agnes, age 14 years, Kilmarnock, Ayr, Branan Stephen, age 10 years, Kilmarnock, Ayr, Branan Ellen, age 7 years, Kilmarnock, Ayr, Branan Catherine, age 4 years, Kilmarnock, Ayr, Branan Marion, age 1 years, Kilmarnock, Ayr. Kilmarnock, Ayr, on the above just means they were living their. By the 1861. we have this family, place of birth included. Garven George, age 24 years, Kilmarnock, Born Kilmarnock, Garven Agnes, age 23 years, Kilmarnock, Born Newfoundland, Garven Margaret, age 4 years, Kilmarnock, Born, Kilmarnock, Garven Mary, age 7 mon, Kilmarnock, Born Kilmarnock. When you look for members of the Brannan family, remember to take into consideration that you will come across several variations on the spelling of the name ie Branan, Brannan, Brennan, and others you may not believe are yours. You also say Michael Brannan, the father was in the Army, this will be the reason several of the family were born outside Scotland. The son Stephen Brannan, was born in England, The daughter Margaret Brannan, was born Newfoundland. Its also most likely Michael, the father was born in Ireland. Regards, Jonn. 3. When I say it doesn't necessarily indicate this - I know it says this is her first child, but it's not unknown for people not to tell the truth even in these documents. They may have felt better implying that these children were not illegitimate. As I say, the only way to be as near to 100% sure is to find their birth records. It doesn't necessarily indicate that this is a second marriage - although it was frowned upon it was still common enough for people to marry (or to "regularise" an existing irregular marriage) after the birth of one or even several children. My g grandparents didn't register their irregular marriage until they had 4 children, and neither had been married before. 3. This N was an odd one to read, I compared it to other street numbers written by this Registrar and find it difficult to deduce its meaning. At first I thought it was a hard to read number, but closer exam saw it to be a nicely scripted N but pretty faint. There is a slightly larger space between the N and the 11. Other addresses were written without an N or the word Number. I'll take a closer shot and send to anyone who wishes to view it. MegG ------------------------------------

    3. Hi, I am wondering if we can find a connection. I have a Janet Pattison formerly Smith married to ? Pattison around that time period in Beith or Gateside. Janet died of cholera leaving 4 children. Two children supposedly came to Canada with Janet's brother John Smith and two went to Australia with Margaret Smith married name also possibly Smith. Additionally, I have Jean Taylor Wilson married to Thomas Blair living in Gateside. The Blair family were related to the Boyd's. If any of this information sounds like there is a connection somewhere to your families I will try and find some more specific dates. Linda
