He married Agnes Johnson and in the 1871 census they were living in Kilmarnock with their daughter Mary born around 1867. They were still living in Kilmarnock in the 1881 census. Agnes had died after 1876 and David was married to someone named Margaret. Their children were Mary, John, Alexander and Margaret. It is thought that John immigrated to the United States. We have information on Alexander but none on John and his sisters. Would appreciate any help. Eileen Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Looking for John MACFARLANE schoolteacher father of my ancestress Elizabeth , she being born in Campbeltown Argyle about 1782 , sadly before registering of schoolteachers. I have looked in Fastii as in the times, as parish priest /minister was often teacher as well, but can't identify him. Elizabeth was married at Riccarton 1800. I guess both teachers AND pastors moved around, though have no proof her parents were in Riccarton. I would welcome any leads to him or to avenues of search. ...no answer from Campbletown Library. I DO know of Ayrshire list at SRO ...PA.10/5 but thought to ask list first...........Elizabeth's mother was a CAMPBELL and so perhaps records could be with a sequestered estate?......thanks for considering....Heather in sunny Dunedin

Good evening all, Have just been given some news the people I was chasing, John and Agnes CAMPBELL did not actually go to Lancashire so must have stayed in Ayrshire. Could sks please look up the 1891 census if they have access. They lived at Bonnington Place Kilmarnock in 1884 which is when my last letter from John to his sister Ann arrived here in Australia. She died before she received that letter. Ann's son George kept the letters and handed them on to my grandmother. Thanking you Chris Australia

Glasgow University Archives holds the NHS Greater Glasgow archives - see: http://www.archives.gla.ac.uk/gghb I know Dundee University Archives and Edinburgh University special collections also hold similar material. A useful tool for searching the archives collectively is Archives Hub at http://www.archiveshub.ac.uk/index.html I find the subject finder worth browsing (although be sure to explore every avenue - Glasgow health records are under hospitals but not under hospitals Scotland). For a list of all the archives held in Scotland see ARCHON at http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/archon/searches/locresult.asp?lctry=Scotland It is always possible some Scottish material is held outwith Scotland; for example some medical material relating to the Scottish Women's Hospital is held by the Women's Library at LMU in London.
