    1. Re: [AYR] Kilmarnock Kirk Session Minutes, note 68
    2. A question suddenly occurs in my mind. Is there ever a distinction in such Session records between fornication and rape? I'd think that some of the consorting with the "Inglish" might actually be the former... but since the Cromwellians were actually an occupying force at the time the civil authorities probably would not have had the ability or inclination to proceed. The Kirk probably couldn't do anything about the English either, but I wonder if some of the "guilty" women were actually victims? Ken Cuthbertson In a message dated 4/18/2010 12:10:30 P.M. JEAN HAMILTON - International Genealogical Index / BI Gender: Female Marriage: 07 DEC 1839 Beith, Ayr, Scotland It would seem she next married Charles McLuskie in 1852 also at Beith. The Jean Knox household in 1851 includes S in L Agnes UM aged 38 who seems to be one of the many children of Robert Knox m. Ann Kerr and likely parents of Samuel (Kerr) Knox. For 1841 this Agnes seems to be in residence with Hugh Knox and wife Jean Patrick. Agnes was given the middle name Wilson as was her older sister Margaret. My Samuel Hunter Knox was seen in a WILSON household for the 1841 Census when his father was likely deceased and his mother was in Glasgow. This was likely John Wilson m. 1834 Beith to Margaret Wilson. Unfortunately I do not have Ancestry membership and do not have a cert trail of these Knox of Beith except for my own direct lineage to Thomas Knox m. Catherine McHaffie. FYI my files do not indicate why I have Samuel KERR Knox as son of Robert Knox m. Ann Kerr. I cannot find that reference at FamilySearch today. A GOOGLE search gives one result for the name from Rootsweb/Ayrshire Archives. Hoping this helps. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. These theories were possible because at one time I had contact with a 'cousin' living in Glasgow who had oral tradition with regard to our line.
