Chris, I can supply some more census info for you. Below is the 1861 census with William and his first family with wife Janet RICHMOND. And I found Campbell & family in the 1901 cenus. You will not find records after the early 1870s on the IGI. Your best source would be http://scotlandspeople.gov.uk the government records site. You can view/download birth/marriage/death and census records for a small fee. I am trying to find William in the 1851 census and will post that information when I find it. 1861 Scotland Census about William Graham Name: William Graham Age: 47 Estimated birth year: abt 1814 Relationship: Head Spouse's name : Janet Gender: Male Where born: Ireland Registration Number: 607 Registration district: Muirkirk Civil parish: Muirkirk County: Ayrshire Address: Bankhead Occupation: Ag Lab ED: 5 Household schedule number: 70 Line: 20 Roll: CSSCT1861_88 Household Members: Name Age William Graham 47 Janet Graham 54 (b Carmichael, Ayrshire) Elizabeth Graham 16 (b Muirkirk, Ayrshire) William Graham 14 (b Muirkirk, Ayrshire) John Graham 12 (b Muirkirk, Ayrshire) ============= 1901 Scotland Census about Campbell Graham Name: Campbell Graham Age: 28 Estimated birth year: abt 1873 Relationship: Head Spouse's name : Sarah Gender: Male Where born: Muirkirk, Ayrshire Registration Number: 607 Registration district: Muirkirk Civil parish: Muirkirk County: Ayrshire Address: Bankhead No 8 Occupation: Pit Head Man ED: 7 Household schedule number: 12 Line: 4 Roll: CSSCT1901_234 Household Members: Name Age Campbell Graham 28 Sarah Graham 28 William Graham 2 Jeanie D Graham 1 Robert C Graham 7 mo Matthew Gilfillan 24 (lodger) ============== -- Jo-Ann Croft
Chris, Perhaps the writing wasn't clear. The pit was actually Bankhead. It closed many years ago and the pit houses were demolished. Bankhead was near Auldhouseburn. Auldhouseburn Farm still exists. James Taylor has an excellent website about Muirkirk. There are also mining websites which give information about the village. Not sure if 'Sornweb' still exists but it also has lots of info on the Muirkirk area. Janet

Hi I see Linda has given details of Unthank. Braehead still exists in Beith (which is in Ayrshire). If you Google "Clydesdale Bank Beith" you will get a map and a photo of Braehead. Hi, Having found this family in 1881 ( by sks who looked up the census) I wondered if anyone might be researching this family. I have William born Ireland married Annie Campbell b Sorn Ayrshire. William was 22 yrs older than Annie. They married 1870 at Sorn.Their children were Campbell born 1872, Hugh b 1873 and Janet b abt 1878. They lived at Bunkhead Muirkirk in 1881. He was a Labourer at the coal pit. I haven't been able to find any marriages on IGI . In a letter dated 1871 they were living at Auldhouseburn which became Bunkhead when? I have no other information. I do hope some one is researching this family Cheers Chris

Dear Margaret, This info. is from the IGI at FamilySearch.org I wonder if the date you have is put down in the British mode (day, month, year) rather than the American mode (month, day, year)? There is a Thomas Cuthbertson baptized 1 December 1822 at Eaglesham, Renfrewshire, which lies just east of Fenwick, Ayrshire, which in turn adjoins Kilmaurs and Kilmarnock. The parents, however, are listed as Thomas Cuthbertson and Isabel Kego. Thomas Sr. and Isabel were married at Eaglesham 10 September 1819. They show up there in the 1841 Census as well (FreeCEN Scotland website), though Thomas Jr.'s age is way off (as is not uncommon in that census). Do you have a list of the children of Thomas Cuthbertson (b. 1822) and Mary Vassey? If there's a daughter Isabel it might point in a different direction than previously thought on his parents' names. The IGI also lists the marriage of a Thomas Cuthbertson and Mary Vassie on 21 April 1844 at Barony Parish, Lanarkshire... i.e. Glasgow. She might be the Mary Vassey born 5 December 1822 at Glasgow to John Vassey and Euphemia Dunsmore. (Again, did Mary and Thomas have any daughters named Euphemia, or Effie?)
