Author: lolak171 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.scotland.ayr.general/14367.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Alison, No I do not have an address and I only have Edward's parents and siblings names because of his convict papers. The siblings were listed in the order as I have given. Edward, then 16yrs was boarding at Old Wynd in 1841 with Penman (a coconspirator) then in custody till 1844. Thought I had a lead at one stage with parents as I found children born to a Wm and Elizabeth nee Hogg but discounted this as she would have been too young. Thanks for your reply and any information would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Lola Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [AYR] re Request for help KNOX of Kilbirnie
    2. Lois Copping
    3. Hello Listers, Recently I requested help with my widow Knox of Kilbirnie. Slowly but surely I am finding my answers. George KNox died in 1896 and Mary was left with five known underaged children. New discovery: Widow Mary Gillies Knox married widower (x 2) Hugh McWhinnie in Kilbirnie 7 July 1899. My grandfather (the eldest) emigrated to BC in 1899 and appeared here in both the 1901 and 1911 Census. In 1901, Hugh McWhinnie w/widow Knox and her children were in Kilbirnie. The children included an extra Knox step child named Hugh aged 8. There was only one Hugh Knox born circa 1894 at Beith. None born at Kilbirnie. This Beith child was not born to Mary Gillies Knox. In 1911 Mary (as Knox) with children Agnes and Matthew were in Greenock. I am still seeking John, William and the newly discovered Hugh. I have a genealogy cousin in Ayrshire and yes his genealogy includes Robert eldest son of Hugh McWhinnie from his first wife Ann Campbell. He is using family and local resources to research the 'appearance' of a son of Hugh and brother of Robert.............named Hugh McWhinnie born circa 1893. Mary came to BC in 1913 and returned to Scotland in Dec 1916. Hugh McWhinnie Sr. died in 1919 at Beith. Today I will search Marys return to BC where she was a known resident again in 1924. It was interesting to learn that William Knox s/o George Knox and Agnes Boyd had married in Lawrence, Mass. Unfortunately I couldn't view their tree at Ancestry Library Edition. Many thanks to Anne, Charles, Linda, Lesley and Rosemary for your help. I hope I didn't miss anyone. I am trying Scotlands People and slowly but surely will gain some skill and confidence. Lois

    1. [AYR] Burnie Family
    2. Alan Ritchie
    3. Would there be SKS that would help look up the census, to help me find the following family that I am struggling to find any leads. Helen Ritchie married William Burnie on the 8th feb 1856. William was a 28year old farm servant of Crosshill. His father was William Burnie Ironstone miner, while his mother was Agnes Martin. From the LDS I have found one daughter called Margaret Burnie born at Kilmarnock on the 6th mar 1856. Do they show up in the 1861 or 1871 census.. Other facts that I have found is that Helen Ritchie (Burnie) remarried in Kilmarnock on the 28th jun 1875 to Adam McGregor a well known Photographer of Kilmarnock. Any information would be appreciated. Very often due to the very poor state of the houses that the folk were living in. And a bonus after demolishing those around the Abbey showed it's true beauty from all angles. But the destruction of, say, the buildings in County Square and the Old Prison behind it was unforgivable. A concrete shopping hall with a multi-story car park replaced them!
