Interested in John SPIER or SPIERS of Garden Street, Ayr. (& Possibly Wallacetown) I think his father was William and the family were cabinet-makers. I was able to get their 1794 marriage OPR from SP. I also found on SP an OPR Birth for a John McGilchrist in 1750 in Baldernock which would have made him 43 when he married but not unusual. But have been unable to find a birth for Margaret Millar or death certs for them both. On the family search site I found 4 children listed for them including my Agnes but no John, so at this point not sure where the John and Ann McGilchrist family fits in. Quite a coincidence that in 1881 a McGilchrist family is living at Arnothill Gardens, Falkirk. :-) Many thanks Chris is NZ at 12.40 am! After a pause of several years - searching for Irish family - I have taken up my Arnot(t) family once again and searching thru the Ayrshire archives came upon your reply. This David Arnot - McGilchrist connection at this 1841 christening sounds very promising. I believe Falkirk is not far from the Campsie area where my family lived. The McGilchrist father John might be Agnes's brother and David might be John Arnots brother although he's not listed along with John and siblings from the family list I got from the LDS site familysearch. Worth investigating further. :-) Cheers Chris in NZ Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
