There was a Daniel McIntyer/McIntyre m Janet White in Kilwinning,Ayrshire 9th August 1823, and although I can't find any children that's not uncommon for the time. I found an 1861 Census return for a Thomas Shaw and wife Mary in Kilwinning, listing 5 children -John,Daniel,Thomas,James and Marion, but they had already lost a daughter in 1858 aged 3yrs called Janet. So if Thomas's parents were John Shaw and Janet Thomson, I wondered if they had followed with traditional Scottish Naming. 1st boy named for Fathers Father, that would be John. 2nd boy named for Mothers Father, that would be Daniel. 1st girl named for Mothers Mother, that would be Janet.(which would satisfy BOTH Grans). Not my clearest ever explanation,hope you can follow it. Thought it was worth a mention. ps Young Thomas born in BRAZIL so already far travelled,and no record of family after death of young James in 1864 to Hydrocephalus. My ggg grandfather was James Boyce who married Elizabeth Hamilton. My gg grandfather, also James, son of the above, was born 1825 in Donaghadee, Co Down. He married Mary Dickson/Dickenson in 1845 in Donaghadee. There is Hugh Boyce born 1830 In Donaghadee- parents Hugh Boyce and Elizabeth Hamilton. Did James die after James was born and Elizabeth Hamilton remarry ?- it was custom for a brother to marry his brother's widow Have also seen Hugh Boyce- parents ????? and Elizabeth Hamilton Were there two Elizabeth Hamiltons ?- a common name back then. Hugh, born 1830, has his father as Hugh Boyce on his marriage certificate- he married Jane Murray in 1849. Naming patterns of Hugh and Jane's children suggest Hugh's father was in fact James- but how reliable? Both James and Hugh went to Ayshire in Scotland. Hugh seems to have stayed in Dalry, while James and his sons worked in various iron mines in Ayrshire. I guess we will never know- intriguing. I have Robert Rodger and Agnes Anderson who married in Beith on 5 April 1800 On the 1841 census Robert is 65 and Agnes 50. The details on the 1841 shows Robert was born in the parish but Agnes was not born in Beith. Calculating from the census Agnes might have been born c. 1790 Does anyone have an Agnes Anderson born about this date in Ayrshire on their family tree.....? I have been unable to get Robert and Agnes further back than their marriage in 1800 so any hints will be appreciated. Sheila
