The 1875 marriage record will give you the names of both sets of parents. The civil registration began in 1855, so George's birth record would fall under the Old Parish Records (Church of Scotland) which means it might not exist. Thanks for responding. Give me a few days, and I will prepare a family history report and send it your way along with photographs. My records do differ from yours in that my dad's cousin, who is close to 90 now, told me that Aunt Annabell married John McVeigh and moved to CA. I don't know what happened to Sarah, but I do have a copy of the IL Dept. of Public Health death index, and it lists a Sarah Jamieson dying on July 19, 1945 in Rock Island, IL. However, since she was not in the obituaries of Robert, or her brother, Henry, who died in 1941, I assume she died before 1925 and the Sarah in the index is not her. My husband is using the computer, so I can't get to my family history program at the moment. I'm trying to go through my paper records. James died when he was 19 in the Great Cherry Mine disaster. It was one of the largest US mining disasters and hundreds of men died. I have seen a copy of the settlement for $250 Robert received to settle his son's death. Robert Jamieson, Robert, Jr. and Cox and McElvaney graves are at Oakwood Cemetery near LaSalle, IL. Robert, Sr. has no headstone, but the cemetery caretaker showed me where his grave is. Catherine Carney, Henry, his wife, Eliza, and James are buried at the Old Miller Cemetery in Spring Valley, IL. I believe there is a headstone for Henry and his wife, but Catherine's and James's are gone. My dad's cousin said she knew they were there once, but must have deteriorated and were removed. They were not there when I visited. Another interesting thing I found was that Robert and Catherine followed the Scottish naming pattern in the naming of their first eight children: 1. Mary (Mother's mother) 2. Hannah (father's mother) 3. Robert (father's father) 4. Katherine (mother) 5. Henry (mother's father) 6. Sarah (father's second eldest sister-his eldest was Hannah and they used that name already) 7. Robert (father) 8. James (father's eldest brother) 9. Annabell (according to the naming pattern, this name should have been Jean for mother's second eldest sister, but since Catherine died in childbirth, the family must have just decided on Annabell). It doesn't always work, but I've found that the naming pattern has often helped me identify Scottish ancestors. I will send you the report and photos hopefully in the next few days. Actually I'll send you a report for the Jamiesons and one for the Carneys. I haven't yet gone further than Robert in Lisburn, Ireland and Henry Carney, He was born in Ireland, but I don't know where. I've had some good leads, but haven't found anything definite yet. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. And thanks for the additional information. For some reason Ancestry wouldn't let me in again using my old information, so now I've opened up yet another account. At the risk of exposure, here is my e-mail address so we can correspond directly if you wish: [email protected] It would be easier for me. I do not have pictures since this is really my (your) cousin's family, to which I am related only by marriage. My cousin is elderly and does not do well on-line, so asked me to investigate her Jamieson ancestry. I have evidence for the following children for Robert and Catherine: Mary (married James Pryde), Hannah (married John McIlveny and Ernest Wahlberg), Robert (died young), Catherine (married Patrick Cox), Henry (married Eliza), Sarah (probably married McVeigh), Robert, James, and Anabelle. James and Anabelle have disappeared by the time of Robert Jamieson's 1925 obituary in the La Salle newspaper, so presumably they also died young also. When you say there is evidence that Robert was born in Ireland, do you mean Robert Jamieson's father, Robert James Jamieson? Yes, I am descended from my grandmother, Catherine Pryde Matthews, daughter of Mary and James Pryde. I can send you some more info on the family, but it may take me a few days since I haven't been working on this branch for awhile. Off the top of my head, I can give you a bit of info that was missing from your post. My father's cousin who is the daughter of Violet Pryde told me that my gg grandmother, Catherine Jamieson, died in childbirth with her youngest daughter, Annabelle. That's why she's not in the 1900 census. There is also another child born to James and Mary Pryde--their oldest son, John. I do have photos of Robert and Catherine and some of their children. I found out from one of the censuses that Robert Jamieson was born in Ireland--and then found that the family was from Lisburn in County Antrim. Also some of his family, I think his sister, also came to the US, and settled in Oglesby, IL, where I was born and raised. I believe one of the Irvine censuses show that Catherine's father, Henry Kairney/Carney, was also born in Ireland. My dad's cousin told me that's what she had always heard. I will get some info ready and send it to you along with some photos. Do you already have any family photos? I don't want to overwhelm you with information. I will get back to you shortly. As you probably know they came to the US sometime before 1880 and were living in Morris, Illinois in the 18809 census. They had three children at that time (more later): Mary, 9, Hannah, 7, and Katie, 4. I suspect that there son Robert had died, since he is not reported in the 1880 census and they later had another son named Robert. Catherine had clearly died before 1900 since she is not in the 1900 census, and then in the 1910 census father Robert is living with Mary and her family (the Prydes). So even if Mary was born before Robert and Catherine were married, she certainly seems to have been a full-fledged member of the family, taking care of her father after her mother's death. The Prydes had 5 children in 1910, Violet, James, Janet, Catherine, and Dorothy. Are you descended from one of these? My cousin in a descendant of Hannah, who married John McIlveny, and after his death she married Ernest Wahlberg. (My cousin is a McIlveny.) Father Robert Jamieson was living with Hannah Wahlberg and her family at the time of his death in 1925. Any information you could give me about the ancestry of Robert Jamieson and Catherine Kairney (Carney) would be greatly appreciated. I can also facilitate contact with my cousin, since she is your cousin also, if you would like. John Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
