I have in my Kinhelp private research library printed copies of several protocol books by notaries in the 1500s and 1600s, but these are rare. Only about 50 survive for the whole of Scotland, and most have very few entries in them. I have ones of Gavin Ros, John Mason, and Robert Broun, who all operated in Ayrshire. I also have a photocopy of the Protocol Book of James Colvill of Carrick. Your Andrew Dalrymple appears in a number of records of the period. He had 4 sons , Charles , John , Andrew and James and his wife was Janet Dalrymple , daughter of Charles Dalrymple a burgess in Ayr . He was solicitor to Campbell of Louden as well as to Stewart . If Andrew was born in Galston, then the amount of land he and his family farmed around Dalrymple would suggest that he was well connected. Naming traditions suggest his fathers name may have been john and mother Janet, Catherines father as Quintine and mother Agnes ??? Hi list I have Watts, Hugh Watt married Janet Dickie b Horsehill Fenwick 1812 ,who was my g grandmothers sister. Hugh was born 1810 Kilmaurs. Children were all born Kilmaurs Knocklandside. Alexander 1833 Janet 1835 Jean 1837 Peter 1840 Hugh 1842 Margaret 1844 James 1847 John 1849 David 1851 Robert 1854. Hugh Watt and Janet Dickie were cousins according to the person who gave me the information, I havnt tried to work it out.
