    1. "Ayotte" becoming "Hyatt"?
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Ayotte Hyatt Johnson Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/AhB.2ACEB/210 Message Board Post: I am working on the ancestry of Lynne Emily Ayotte (b. 1892, m. John B. Johnson, my grandparents), and great work by Wendy Plunkett has established that Lynne's grandfather, Joseph Ayotte (b. about 1819), a Canadian immigrant to the US, was living in Pulaski County, Illinois at the time of the 1860 census -- under the surname Hyatt. Joseph's wife was Mipomene (sp?), MNU; children included Horall (sp? -- male, later known as "Orral," Lynne's father), Alexander, Amelia, Francis, Joseph (m. Rachel or Rahal, MNU, in southern IL in 1880 then moved to Arkansas), Clarissa, and apparently Philemon. I know that Horall/Orral and Joseph _fils_ reverted to the Ayotte spelling later, but don't know about the others. Some of them might have retained the Hyatt spelling, or invented a new one. Is there any possibility that you might have members of this family, whether under the surname Ayotte or Hyatt? Thanks for any help; I'd love to trace this line back to the original Monsieur Thomas Hayot.
