George Avis born 1818 somewhere in England. Looking for his parents. George left England in 1835 and came to the USA.
I've gone as far back as William Taylor Avis who was supposedly born in New York City @1804. According to a couple documents, HIS father was born in Virginia but I haven't been able to find his parents. He married Susan Brower at the North-West Reformed Dutch in 1825 and they had four children - Sarah Avis, Jane Avis, Isaac Avis and William Augustus Avis - all born in New York City. William Augustus Avis was born in 1868 and married Ida Tasker - and they had three children, William Tasker Avis, Ida Avis (married George Frederick Pelham) and Ephram Scudder Avis -born in NYC. They eventually moved to Brooklyn.

Hi everyone I am the new listowner for the Avis list. I need to ask a favor of all the members. I would like to clear out bad/old/bouncing emails...the only way to do this is for there to be more than a few posts within a 24 hour time. Can you all please post to the list...go ahead and send in your Avis queries...from the looks of the archives it has been a while since everyone has done that....you just may find a cousin! Thanks for the help everyone! Dee Listmom AVIS-L@rootsweb.com
I have found information on Basil Avis on my Jefferson County CD - it is a history of the area. My great-great grandfather was Captain John Avis, perhaps Basil's brother? I have the information on John's birth and death "someplace". He was jailor when John Brown was on trial in Charles Town. I'm confused about the Weaver part - Basil Avis was actually in the news a good bit according to the newspapers of that time. My great grandmother's maiden name was Avis. The Avis burial site is in Harpers Ferry, but John is buried at Edgehill in Charles Town. I hope you find the information you need! AVIS, WELLINGTON I am looking for Wellington Avis B abt 1875 in Michigan. I believe John Avis was His Father. Is any one searching this family?
Ellen Avis, granddaughter of Robert Avis wrote two letter in 1871 that give clues to marriages and locations of some of Robert's children. Hi Jane and Listers I have not got very much on the Avis family as yet. I find trying to trace them in England is not very easy. What I do have William Harry Avis married Elizabeth Rowson in 1898 Kingston upon Thames/Feltham. They had a son Leslie in 1911 and after this date it appears they immigrated to Australia. If anyoone has any leads it would be most appreciated. I dont know in England but in Australia Avis is a very uncommon surname. Sandy Avis Australia ----- > > I am trying to find out about my ancestor JANE AVIS. Jane was born around 1806, and gives her place of birth on the 1851 census at Helmingham, Suffolk, England as City of Cork Ireland. > >
