I was very interested in your query about Ontario Averys ... although I can't answer your question I am wondering if we might be searching for the same branch. I also was an Avery until I married ... and although I've documented a lot of my family history I've found very little about which branch of the Averys I come from. My father, Guy William Avery, was born in Westville, NY (very near the Canadian border) in 1909, although the family lived in Merrickville, Ontario until they were finished with school. That is why I have been thinking that their roots may be in Ontario. Merrickville is in Grenville County, next to the Leeds your family comes from, and some of the names are similar (William, James and John are common names in our family). My grandfather, Robert Walter Avery, was born 1883 in Westville Center. While his children were growing up he was a farmer in Merrickville, Ontario. I have written for a copy of his death certificate and hope they can locate it. He married Henrietta Johnson, also of Westville. Robert's father, William Avery, was married to Miranda Rhinehart Avery. He had at least one brother, Leslie Avery. I figure he was born sometime around 1850, and probably married arround 1880. Although my aunt remembers him living in Westville, NY when she was young, she doesn't know where he was born. Any ties, leads, or other information about this family would be greatly appreciated. I have looked through some of the cemetery listings for Ontario and see there are MANY Averys, but I don't know the names of who I am looking for yet! Renie Cervone
