NY 1850 Census (I believe Chenango Co) Thompson AVERY age 40 Laborer Birthplace NY Betsy 29 wife NY William H 9 son NY Francis 7 son NY Thompson AVERY was the son of Elisha and Bathia Thompson AVERY. He was first married to Amanda Reynolds and they are supposed to have had a son Charles before Amanda died. Thompson then married Betsy ???? I have not found what happened to Betsy or Francis, but Thompson and William went to Illinois. In the 1860 ILL Census, Thompson was in La Salle Co doing Farm Labor and living with the Judson Rogers Family. William H was in Somonauk, DeKalb Co doing Farm Labor with the Joseph Latham Family. There was a marriage in 1862 in DeKalb Co between a William H AVERY and a Miss Harriet Hinsdale. Aug 14, 1862 #360 Book B. I believe this to be the same William H AVERY. Harriet died possibly giving birth. There is a Charles G AVERY born 1862 and died 1906 who is buried with Harriet Hinsdale AVERY and her parents in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Sandwich ILL He may be the son of William H and Harriet?? In 1862 William H entered the Civil War from Somonauk. He was captured and was a prisoner at ANDERSONVILLE . In Aug of 1865 he got out of the Civil War and on Sept 7, 1865 married Sarah H. TRIPP in Kendall Co Illinois. Thompson AVERY in the meantime married Jemima TRIPP in Kendall Co in 1863 (A1 #107) Thompson and Jemima and William H and Sarah went to Benton Co Iowa. Children of William and Sarah were: Allison Thompson AVERY Melville G AVERY Frank Roy Eunice Elma Most of them are buried there in Benton Co Mt Auburn Cem. If anyone has differing or additional info on this family, I would appreciate hearing from you. I would like to know Betsy's maiden name and where she and Francis are.
