    1. [AVERY] Re: Descendant of Captain Robert and Lt. James Avery of Machias
    2. Not really, I am a member of the Hopewell Valley Historical Society, and the Parke Society so I'm happy with that. Once it gets to have a wide birth the possibility of having anything of interest on the ancestors that you are researching gets slim. I've also just recently had to downsize on all my memberships, newsletters, etc. because I'm losing my job and don'tknow how long I'll be unemployed before getting another and I have no retirement and no other income than my own so have to cut things where I can cut them. Those 2 memberships I mentioned are the only two I'm keeping since I'm lineage leader for the Parke Society and because the Hopewell Valley newsletter is one of the very best of all the newsletters I used to get - full of pertinent information on my families and I've also become sort of an semi-expert on that particular area. I used to be part of the big New Jersey Genealogical/Historical Society - can't remember the title anymore when I first was doing my research but found that it never contained anything of interest to me specifically. 1. [AVERY] Re: Descendant of Captain Robert and Lt. James Avery of Machias
    2. I'm not an Avery. I married one in 2006 and divorced him in 2008 - was pretty much a disaster. I did his genealogy for him but I personally am not related to them in any way. Susan I grew up in Flemington, Hunterdon Co., NJ and as it turned out I have about 8 lines that came out of Hopewell, old Hunterdon (now Mercer) Co., NJ so my NJ lines are Dr. Roger Parke of Hopewell and I am lineage leader for the Parke Society for his line. I'm a descendant of Ralph Hunt of Newtown, Long Island - descendants also came to Hopewell/Maidenhead (now Lawrenceville) NJ, Descendant of Theophilus Phillips of Southampton, Long Island who also came to Hopewell /Maidenhead, NJ, Richard Stockton grandfather of the "Signer", Andrew Smith descendant who named "Hopewell", and out of New Amsterdam, Long Island the Opdyck and Andriesen - became Anderson lines - also of Hopewell. Joshua Nichols of Monmouth, Middlesex and Somerset Co.s - a Scottish Presbyterian Covenantor member of Old Scots Tennent Church and John Fraser of same (both difficult people especially John Fraser Joshua's father in law - difficult to find records or information on him and his family - still unsure of wife and if I've found all of his children). So.... any connections with them, I'd be interested since you are at Rutgers in New Brunswick you are in a good location to have whatever records there may be. My parents died in 2003 and 2005 respectively so I have no home to go home to, to do research in the Archives in Trenton or in the Hunterdon Co. genealogical society library or the genealogy room in the regular library anymore. I live in Winston-Salem, NC. Thanks for giving me the offer even though it turns out I'm not interested. Al was a descendant of Capt. James Avery (1621-1700) of Groton, New London, CT son of Christopher Avery of Devonshire, England. I am looking for any bits of information on Eliza Avery (my great grandmother) born sometime between 1830 and 1837 in New York; likely in Rennselaer County. She is listed as living with Gilbert V. Reilay, in both the 1850 Federal census and the 1855 New York census. Census info also reveals her father was born in England and her mother was born in New York. She married John Harris in Troy, New York in 1856, and lived there until her death. Living children included Isabella (1861-1922), Mary (1870 -) and Gilbert Reilay (1876 - 1951). I have completely struck out with Eliza, and really want to find her and the rest of my family. Thanks for reading my email - and for any information you may have to share.
