Okay - just one more question. <g> Was Thomas Avery of Portsmouth/Greenland, NH, born abt 1631 in America or did he immigrate later? Where were "his" ancestors from? England, maybe? where in England? in or around Berkshire? Still digging! Karen

This is my first attempt to use this search resource. I am trying to find out something about an ancestor of mine, William AVERY. Believe he was born in GA ca 1805 and died in Giles County, TN between 1830 and 1840. Cause of death may have been involvement in a gun fight, and children may have been raised by the Wheeler family. I have an Ann AVERY, born about 1787 in NC (think it was New Hanover County), who married John MARTIN. I have not been able to locate her parents...yet. This couple lived in Bladen County. There are several references to a Jonathan AVERY in the newspaper abstracts from New Hanover County, NC, for the late 1700s and early 1800s. If memory serves me correctly, he was a merchant. Hi Marvin: I have a feeling we have gone thru once before and could not find a connection - were you able to catch up with JZuccarini@aol.com? She has worked on an Avery/Avera line that seems to have come from NC, a brief time in SC and then GA before moving to other places..... I do however, have: Marlin Travis KELLEY married: Caroline Avary/Avery 18 Sept 1920 Clayton Co.GA 10 Kelley offspring from this liason James Allen ODOM married: Catherine Elizabeth L Avary/Avery 9 April 1890 Wynewood (Indian Territory), OK 9 Odom offspring fromthis liason No Gaar, Greers, Gaither, Pople (although I do have a POPE not connected with Avary), Colvin, Sealy, Roddye, copelands, Jeter.. BUCKNER is worthly of further checking as we are working on another Avery line in VA with Buckner / Avery / Tillman/House connection.... One of the Farrar lines also had Buckner. I have seen reference to Avery/Buckner connection not only VA, but parts of GA and MS, LA..... We have never eliminated possibility that both Avery lines in VA are somehow connected, but no legitimate link so far. Let's keep in touch. Mary Avary Whittier

I have not submitted a query since the old Maiser list and we a number of new researchers, I am going to re-submit in the hopes that we will get a hit. I have an early JOHN or JONATHON AVERY that was born in the range of 1780 to 1790 in NC (according to his 1850 census). I first found him in GA when he married Mary Ann Kelly in 1827 but have no clues about him prior to that date. I believe he had a couple of sons and a daughter. I have only been able to trace William Avery on to S Ark and then to Louisiana where he left a whole herd of Avery people. William had married a Greer in Ga and a lot of Greers moved to Louisiana about the same time in 1851 that I have been able to trace. Anyone have any Avery family in SC between 1780 and 1790 or Avery or Kelly families in Ga in the 1820-1850 range? If so, I would like to review your family data even if it does not initially appear to be a connection. We may find one as we compare several family records. marvin ======================================================================= |marvin e owen | RESEARCHING SURNAMES: | |3036 brakley drive | OWEN, COLVIN, ODOM, AVERY, | |baton rouge, louisiana 70816 | HARDY, MARTIN in Clay Cty, Ala | |ph 504-292-0099 | HARRIS (Union Cty,Ark), SEALY(Tn) | |fax 504-296-5780 | GREER, GAAR, GAITHER, POPE | |e-mail marvin@intersurf.com | McKENZIE (Ms-La), BUCKNER (La) | |http://www.meocpa.com | RODDYE (Tn), COPELAND(Ms) JETER(Ga)| =======================================================================
