    1. HAGADORN/AVERY Family Bible
    2. Terry Hill
    3. Hi all, I found this 'Lost and Found' web site and it had an Avery family bible that can go to a legit. family member if they want it. Read along and see if this is you. If you are a decendant, then he asks that you contact him directly. Good luck Terry Hill _______________________________________________ HAGADORN/AVERY Family Bible I have an old Family Bible that was found in a drawer of a bureau that I purchased at a church Galway, N.Y. The bible is in not too bad shape, but the cover is coming off. I would be happy to give this bible to it's rightful owner or heir(s). The bible does contain information in the center pages regarding marriages, births and deaths as follows; The first page in the center of the book "Certifies that the site of Holy Matrimony was celebrated between Dwight Hagadorn of Stratford and Emma G. Avery of Stratford on December 10th, 1873 at Salisbury Corners, NY, by Rev. Gabriel Reese, Minister of the Gospel. Witness: Margarett Lowry and Filo Styles." The next page is "Marriages" and shows Dwight Hagadorn and Emma G. Avery were married December 10th, 1873 and then includes on the next line Bertha Hagadorn and Edward J. Daley June 29th, 1904. The next page is "Births" and starts Dwight Hagadorn was born March 5th, 1846, Emma G. Avery was born Sept. 30th, 1856, Orvie Hagadorn was born Feby 16, 1881, Bertha F. Hagadorn was born Sept. 26th, 1883, Jay Edgard Daley Hagadorn was born Oct. 7, 1909. The next page is "Deaths" and includes Orvie Hagadorn Died June 13th 1888, Dwight Hagadorn Died Jan 4th, 1913, and Emma G. Hagadorn Died April 29th, 1928. At the bottom of this page in different handwriting is Sarah (Smith) Newman born in London, England July 9th, 1820, Died March 9, 1900, Stratford. Taped to the "Death" page was a newsclipping that stated "Our community was pained to learn that Mrs. Thomas Numan had died, last Saturday morning, after a brief illness brought on by overwork in taking care of her husband, who had been sick for several weeks. Little hope is now entertained for his recovery." I may be contacted at: SlinkysDad@AOL.com Patrick Kelliher

I am the daughter of Howard Burton Avery III so I at least expected to find something on a Howard Avery. My father and his family are based around St. Louis, MO, and that was where I was born. If anyone knows anything, or has advice on places to look, please reply. Thank you, Elaine aka DJ Miscellaneous eos@barkingcat.org http://www.barkingcat.org/eos/

    1. RootsWeb - FYI
    2. -Lane
    3. [ This is a retransmit of a message I sent last Thursday -- turns out most of the list didn't receive it the first time through. My apologies to the folks who receive it twice ... -B ] It's been a long, rough summer. ### We had excruciating problems with attacks from crackers, but we've tightened security somewhat and that problem seems to have abated. <knock on wood> ### As many of you know, RootsWeb adopted the 1,000-odd Maiser mailing lists after a spam attack forced Larry Stephens to close his site. Since that time, the number of lists has grown to more than 1,500 and we are continuing to create more than 100 new lists each month. We've also adopted the eWorld mailing lists after Apple chose to stop supporting them at LSoft. These are among the largest genealogical lists, and share gateways with the various genealogical Usenet news groups. It's important to note that Apple didn't forsake the lists, though: they generously donated a server to RootsWeb to help house the lists. ### As a consequence of these adoptions and the natural growth in use of RootsWeb, we're now "moving more bytes" than *any* other genealogical site on the Internet. Our Web server handles a substantial fraction of the load handled by Microsoft.com's 15 servers, and our older (and more heavily loaded) mail server handles about half the load of plum.lsoft.com, the world's busiest list server. ### In part caused by the influx of new lists (and also by the increasing popularity of the 1,700 Websites we host), RootsWeb experienced a series of technical problems. While we managed to come through the problems with little actual downtime, Karen and I were running with very little sleep and no free time for several months. During that time we made a number of changes, including: o Growing from 2 to 4 main servers, and from 2 to 5 auxiliary servers. o Upgrading the operating systems on our servers to a more stable version of Unix. o Adding industrial quality uninterruptible power supplies and power conditioners. o Adding redundant networking hardware in our network operating centers. o Growing from one to two (and soon three) separate and partially redundant network operating centers. o Adding fast, high-capacity tape backup systems. o And a hundred other large and small improvements. But the executive summary is that we've made a laborious and expensive transition to operating a professional-quality site. ### Concerning Member and Sponsor services, the one thing we regret from the last year is that we've done a poor job of supporting folks who wanted Web space or GEDCOM service on our servers. We intend to remedy that problem within the next several weeks. And as we announced before, all of the folks who wanted Web space or GEDCOM service will have their memberships extended to a year after we get them up and running. ### Concerning fundraising, RootsWeb is now entering its thirteenth month of full operation. We've been too busy supporting the site to spend much time on fundraising, but we anticipate launching a major drive shortly. While part of the funds will be used for covering the costs of operating the site, we're hopeful that in the next fiscal year we can raise enough fungible funds that we can get on with what we'd really like to be spending money on: BUYING GOVERNMENT RECORD SETS AND BRINGING THEM ONLINE FOR EVERYONE TO FREELY USE. ### I'd like to end with a personal thank-you to everyone who has contributed to RootsWeb during the last year. You should each feel like you've done something for Internet genealogy -- if you hadn't supported RootsWeb, the world would have been a different place: o ROOTS-L, the Maiser lists, and the eWorld lists would still be depending on the charity of others, and might not exist at all. o 1,700 USGenWeb and other Websites wouldn't have had a home with unlimited space for data. o The Roots Surname List wouldn't have had a home. Thank you for helping Internet genealogy grow! -B -- Dr. Brian Leverich leverich@rootsweb.com Co-moderator, soc.genealogy.methods/GENMTD-L http://www.rootsweb.com/ RootsWeb Genealogical Data Cooperative P.O. 2. Karen A. Miller
    3. I am not quite sure if you need info on only Benjamin or if you need to go back through Samuel P as well, or if you realize that there are books written by Samuel himself. I do not have this books on my shelf but one place they can be obtained is from the New England Historic Genealogical Societies (NEHGS) circulating library. Of course you have to be a member of this society, but anyone with New England research can definitely benefit by this, in my opinion. Check out their home page at http://www.nehgs.org for more information. Also check your nearby major library for this book as well. Samuel Putnam Avery, "The Avery, Fairchild and Park Families" of Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island, with a Short Narration of Facts Concerning Mr. Richard Warren, Mayflower Passenger and His Family Connections with Thomas Little Samuel Putnam Avery, "The Warren, Little, Lothrop, Park, Dix, Whitman, Fairchild, Platt, Wheeler, Lane and Avery Pedigrees of Samuel Putnam Avery, 1847-1920" It's been a while since I researched in these and if they may not come down the line as far as you now need to go. Sorry if this isn't useful, I just never know. Karen Avery Miller karenavery@CompuServe.com
