    1. [AUVIL] Auvils in the Civil War
    2. I have been meaning to post to the list for some time with the following question: Has anyone come across additional information about any of our ancestors involvment in the war? I have always been very interested in the subject of the Civil War in general. Daniel Moat's story is well documented, however: 1) Can anyone confirm whether his brother Christopher was the one who served in Company F of the 15th West VIrginia Infantry. 2) Can anyone confirm whether the 15th was a Federal or Confederate unit? 3) Does anyone have any further information about the above's brother William serving in the Union Army? 4) Where did the story about Daniel Auvil (1817-1899) being shot by a Confederate soldier come from? 5) The LDS site now lists John Auvil (Son of Lewis S or K) as having a son in 1864 he named Ulysses (after Grant perhaps?). My point is that our family history may profoundly exemplify how the war was literally one of "brother against brother". My theory is that the war and it's aftermath may have had a distinct impact upon the family's evolution. It seems that it was during this and immediately succeeding generations that the family began to spread out geographically. I wonder if there is a connection. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
