When I saw this, the source was listed as Fansler's History of Tucker County. I believe that this is just a misreading. This is the sentence in Fansler: "They also captured John Mick, a deserter, who was lined up before a firing squad and shot on the spot; a man named Cunningham, who was shot while trying to escape and died of the wound; and Daniel Auvil." I read this to mean he was captured, not shot. Carla
