Richard: You say you find it hard to believe that Able was changed to Auville. It may be you just have trouble believing they were German not French, but most of the people around them and whom they married were also German. I believe my ex wife found records substantiating the children of J Able underwent such a change of name to Auvel or Avel and then Auvil. She may even have copies of birth or death certificates which show this. I never paid as much attention to the research she was doing as I should have. It has also been pointed out to me that Abel is likely to have been Jewish originally in Germany. If I remember right there was a John Auvil[le] adopted by a Daniel Auvil who lived in Tucker Co. Also someone on the net had a complicated story about one of them marrying a second time so that there was link between my relatives not through Auvil but a wife of one. Gene Auville "C.
