    1. Re: [AUTRY] the Autry book
    2. I probably need to make a comment re the index of the Autry/Culbreth book. The rough copy of the book fortunately went to the publisher a couple of weeks before Mayo was killed. The index was started here in AZ but could not be finished and Mayo wanted it done there by a friend. It was finally completed some months after he died but it and the book were never proofread by anyone back in NC. The sum of this is that it is fortunate that there are not more mistakes than there are. The book is a compilation of the info that Cousin Mayo collected over 60 yrs, which he modified to emphasize Autry lines over Culbreth--since they frequently intermarried! The original cost came from Cousin Mayo's wanting most of the books presold. He was very conservative and did most of the work himself, often until 2-3 am, on his $3 portable typewriter, which is had bought used. So I did not want to change the price he committed to. I never actually totaled up what it cost. Best to let some sleeping dogs lie??? I have always thought the Autr*ys were an unusual American pioneer family and wanted a legacy to attest to that.
