1790 Richland Co., SC Just found an Elizabeth Aughtry/Daughtry (can't read that well) living next door to a Cornelius Aughtry/Daughtry Does anyone have any info on these two? Thanks in advance John Taylor
This is interesting. I have nothing specific on these two, but: In Richland County, SC Elizabeth McGrew, daughter of Peter Alexander McGrew, was born 29 May 1779. She married a David Aughtry. She died 8 Aug 1850 probably in Union County, SC and is buried there. David is supposed to have survived her but date and place of death/burial are unknown. Ellizabeth had a sister named Mary, born about 1791, who married a Cornelius Aughtry..I know nothing else of the origin or further history of this Cornelius. I have supposed that David and Cornelius may have been brothers or cousins and, knowing of the family of Cornelius Autry of North Carolina (the immigrant ?) I have looked for a connection, but have not been able to establish one. I further note that I have not found any other Aughtrys who are not related to David. In fact, all I know of of this spelling are his descendants. There was a court case over the estate of Alexander McGrew in Richland Equity Court, the surviving papers of which provide much information on these people. What is your connection to the Aughtrys?
