Hi guys, I am puzzled by the following statement "In 1799 there was an absolem and alexnder autrey members of the Mars Hill Bapt. Church in oconee co Ga where Elizabeth Autrey's husband, John's mother priscilla hopkins was a member. Have you checked oconee county. Later Absolem came to perry co. al with elizabeth after the death of John in the war of 1812. Absolem and Cornelius Autrey were in perry co in 1830." The Cornelius Autrey who was in the 1830 Perry County, Ala., census married Nancy Eaves in 1802 in Rutherford County, N.C. He was in Jasper County, Ga., by 1811, when he witnessed a deed for one of his brothers-in-law. The Absalom Autrey who is enumerated in the 1830 Perry County, Ala., census, was the oldest son of Cornelius and Nancy (Eaves) Autrey. If you look again at that census, you will note that he was recorded in the 20-29 age bracket. So he had not been born in 1799. Cornelius Autrey's father, also named Absalom, was enumerated in the 1800 census of Rutherford County, N.C., apparently arriving there from Moore County, N.C. He had settled in Alabama by 1820 where he can be found in St. Clair County, Ala., censuses of both 1820 and 1830. All of these Corneliuses and Absaloms can be confusing!! Janey E.
