Knowing that your John Autry was from GA ca. 1799 raises the possibility that he was a descendant of Cpt John Autry, the son of Cornelius who was killed by the Creek indians in GA in 1788. He is the subject of Chapter 3 in the Autry/Culbreth book. The first Autry history was that of Mahan Blair Autry (p 237) who published the family of Cpt John in 1964. This book may be available on the internet, and has been republished by Higginson Book Co. It might be helpful to look there. I believe it was named: Descendants of Capt John Autry (listed in Footnotes) Robert Autry Brooks.
Thanks Robert, I will check to see if I can locate this book.
