Hi Betty, I was intrigued by your message: "Robert, on the 1830 Perry Co. Census there is a Cornelius and Absolem Autrey. I don't know about 1840 but will check as soon a I get a chance to go to the Birmingham Library. Our Elizabeth Autrey Hopkins was also in Perry Co. at that time." The Cornelius Autrey in the 1830 Perry County, Ala., census is almost certainly the son of the Absalom Autrey who was born between 1740 and 1750, possibly in England, lived for many years in North Carolina before settling in St. Clair County County, Ala., where he appears to have died after 1830. I have been trying very hard to identify all of Corneliuss children and I have a few gaps, but I think it unlikely that your Elizabeth Autrey could have been one of his children because he had a daughter, Elizabeth, who married Bryant Smith. Cornelius' oldest son, the Absalom listed in the 1830 Perry County census, also had a daughter named Elizabeth. But she was not born until 1832 and married Silas Marion Fuller in 1850 in Union Parish, La. My heart goes out to anyone trying to research the various Autreys. They are maddening. I know far more than I ever wanted to know about them because Cornelius Autrey married Nancy Eaves, the oldest daughter of Bartlett Eaves, my third great-grandfather. I am compiling a book on the ancestors and descendants of Bartlett Eaves. Janey E. Joyce in San Antonio, Texas THIS IS WHAT I HAVE FOR CORNELIUS & CHILDREN AS OF 1830 Cornelius Autry (1830 Perry County, Ala., census: page 62-line 3): 1 male 50-59 (b. 1771-1780) (Cornelius, probably 55-60) 1 female 40-49 (b. 1781-1790) (probably wife Nancy, probably around 45) 1 male 30-39 (b 1791-1800) (unidentified, could not be Nancys son if the age bracket is correct) 1 female 15-19 (b 1811-1815) (probably daughter Charity Mai, about 15) 1 male 10-14 (1816-1820) (son James Henry, about 10) 1 female 10-14 (1816-1820) (unidentified) 1 male 5-9 (1821-1825) (Could this be Commodore/Cornelius P.?, about 10) 1 female 5-9 (1821-1825) (unidentified) 1 male under 5 1826-1830 (probably son Elijah Berryman, about 2) Absalom (about 27, Cornelius oldest son) and Elizabeth (Norris) Autrey, were enumerated on page 62, line 3 of the 1830 Perry County census: page 62-line Starling R. and Alsista (Autrey) Price (about 26, Cornelius oldest daughter) were enumerated on page 5, line 5 of the 1830 Perry County, Ala., census. Bartlett Eaves Autrey (about 25, Cornelius second son) was not found in the 1830 census and I wonder if he was the male age 30-39 listed in Corneliuss household in 1830 and the census enumerator put him in the wrong age bracket. He was in Perry County in 1833 when he married Nancy Buttler. Bird and Alsira (Autrey) Griffin (about 24, Corneliuss second daughter) were enumerated in the 1830 Bibb County, Ala., census (page 161-line 12) Possible child here, say about 22. Bryant & Elizabeth (Autrey) Smith (about 20, Cornelius third daughter) were enumerated in the 1830 Perry County, Ala., census page 62-line 4) Possible child here, say about 17-18
