Part of it comes from the will of his father James Backus that has recently been transcribed and posted on the GAGenWEb project page at http://www.rootsweb.com/~gaharals. There are additional census indexes on this site also that provide more info. James was the second son of John Bachus (later Baccus) who migrated from NC to Morgan Co, GA in the early 1800's. John acquired land in Walton Co in the 1820 Land Lottery and moved there in the mid 1820's. James apparently married unknown about 1831 and had four children, one of which was Augustus. James married Lucinda Knight in 1839 and they had one child James Jr. In 1845 he married Adaline Autry and had possibly 12 more children.
