I have identified seven people I believe to be the children of Bartlett E.(Eaves?) Autrey and Nancy (Butler) Autrey, but am having big trouble finding out what happened to most of them. I would appreciate any help anyone can give me. Email me at jejoyce@texas.net i. CORNELIUS W. AUTREY - I found him and wife Elizabeth Hardin in the 1860 Conway County, Ark., census and the 1880 Faulkner County census. Does anyone know where he was in 1870 and 1900?? ii. J.A. AUTREY - (male) Born about 1836 in Alabama . I found a James Autrey who may be him and wife, Tinsey, recorded in the 1860 Conway County, Ark. census. Can't find him after that. Does anyone know where he was in 1870 & after??. iii. A.E. AUTREY - (female) Born about 1838 in Alabama. Have found nothing on her. iv. E.T. AUTREY - (male)Born about 1840 in Alabama. Have found nothing on him. v. SALONA AUTREY - (female)Born about 1843 in Alabama. Found her and her husband, John T. Dillard in Clark County, Ark., in 1870. Anyone know where they were in 1880, 1900?? vi. J.F. AUTREY - (male) Born about 1846 in Alabama. Have found nothing on him v. vii. LEWIS AUTREY - Born 12 March 1847. Have found information on him and wife Mary Bohannon.
Males disappearing after 1860...? Try the various indices of Confederate soldiers and you will probably find that some of them died in the war. Most Confederate soldiers served in units raised within a few miles of their homes. If you find a possible match by name, you can look into where the unit was raised for some confirmation. Any who look fairly definite can be further confirmed by getting an entire copy of their Confederate service record. Those are spotty as to what is documented but especially for soldiers killed early in the war they may have family information, because wives and parents often applied for the soldiers unpaid enlistment bonus money or back pay. Note: It is not unusual for a man to join a unit across the state line if he lived in a border county area.
