Note that his first daughter is named Elizabeth - could be his mother or his wife's mother. Do you have Lucinda's mother's name? I am a descendant of his 2nd wife, Margaret Ann Mattix, dau. of Edward Mattix & Eliz. Bond. Margaret was pregnant with her 7th child by David Hinds when he died. Mary was born after his death in 1843. In the 1850 census - her older children are being raised by Grandmother Esther Hinds (need her maiden name) in Van Buren, AR. The younger two Cynthia & Mary are in the household with John Autry & wife Margaret. Also in the house are John's children: William 21 Elizabeth 18 James 16 John 14 George 11 Alexander 9 Eveline 7 (last child by first wife) Margaret 3 (twins - first children by 2nd wife - Margaret Ann (Mattix) Hinds Autry Sarah 3 Taylor 6/12 Cynthia Hinders 11 Mary Hinders 7 In Margaret's first marriage the first two boys were named after their grandfathers and the first two girls were named after their grandmothers. (I can send all the children of her first marriage if it is needed) If Sarah WAS the name of John's first wife - then Margaret was fond of her because she named one of her twins - Sarah. What I find unusual is that she named the other twin Margaret, after herself evidently, when she had already named a daughter of her marriage to David Hinds as Margaret Elizabeth - although this child was called Elizabeth. Elizabeth is the name of Margaret's mother, Elizabeth Bond. Note that on the IGI - Margaret's last name is listed as Taylor. Evidently some researcher not knowing his/her history decided that since Zachary's middle name was Taylor - it must be Margaret's last name. But, Colonel Zachary Taylor (who later became president) was posted at Ft. Smith during this time. The family may have been acquainted with him. The same is probably true of the name of Margaret's 3rd son by David Hinds - Archibald Yell Hinds. The young lawyer, Archibald Yell, moved to Van Buren, AR from Lawrence Co. AR about the same time as the Hinds families. Archibald Yell & wife were married by the same preacher as David and Margaret Hinds - in Lawrence Co. Regards Nan 71532.734@compuserve.com
