Margaret first married a David HInds in 1827 in Lawrence Co. AR. She married 2nd to a Rev. John Autry. Some Autry researchers think that her maiden name was Taylor because she named her first son by her 2nd husband Zachary Taylor Autry. The Autry researchers did not know she has been married previously. In fact, her husband Rev. John Autry was the chaplain for the army post at Ft. Smith where a Colonel Zachary Taylor (later Pres. Taylor) was posted. So, we ASSUME that they named their son after this colonel. I am sending this message to ward off further mis-conceptions about the maiden name of Margaret Ann Mattix in case any descendants of Zachary Taylor Autry use this message board. Rev. John Autry had three wives and a total of 18 children!! His second wife was Margaret Ann (Mattix) Hinds, widow of David Hinds. Her name was NOT Taylor. I believe I have the names of his children by his first wife (or some of them from a census) but we do not know his first wife's name. We know his third wife's name and his children by his 2nd and 3rd wife. Nan Wolf
