I would suggest that you order the 1860 soundex for Autry in MS and look through the entire group of cards for a child aged 3 or 4 named William, Wm ;or W. You can order it through inter-library loan if your library still has that facility. Some have stopped it due to costs. Our library now charges $5.00 for a census film to be ordered. It costs $3.50 to order a film at a local LDS Family History Center - if you are lucky to be near one. Regards Nan 71532.734@compuserve.com

    3. I believe the 1880 census was the first census that was soundexed. There are printed census indexes for Mississipp, but they will only have the heads of household indexed. Ancestry.com is working on an every-name index for 1860 and posting it online everytime a state is finished. But I am pretty sure Mississippi has not been indexed yet. Be patient; it will eventually be posted. Although I personally subscribe to ancestry.com, it is not necessary to do that. Many public libraries and all LDS Church (Mormon) family history centers subscribe to ancestry.com.
