Looking for Autreys can be a real challenge because of the many ways the name has been spelled. It is not unusual to see the name spelled two or even three different ways on a single document. Autrey was also sometimes spelled as heard to be related to the now disused mathematical expression "aught" (zero)... Aughtery or Aughtry. If you are using a soundex index, some of these spelling are so far apart that they actually fall under quite different soundex codes.
