    1. Re: [AUTRY] Autry books
    2. Thank you for the compliment on typing, but I only typed most of Chap 4-and I did use the computer for that, but not with index associated. Cousin Mayo had collected Autry/Culbreth info for 60 yrs and put out two prior books on the Autrys. He typed this one on his "$3 portable" -- literally -- at least, that is what he told me he paid for it. He would type and cut & paste until 2 a m . And he was 82 at that time. He had more energy than I do. So it is no surprise that there are mistakes! That is also why the index had to done separately. He hated to waste space so he put in pictures and poems wherever he could. He said he would not live to see the book published. I did not believe him, but he was right. The tribute in the front of the book was obviously added for that reason. I could never have completed the book. He loved his Autry cousins. He was descended from an Autrey on both sides of his family and so, in the Southern vernacular, he was his own cousin. That is evident in the references to the Autry and Culbreth marriages. In fact, I did not think it necessary, but since we were writing this book more for the Autry line, he rewrote the chapters with Culbreth/Autry marriages and moved them to the Autry lines from the Culbreth lines. And all on his $3 portable. And we were collaborating from NC to AZ, although he never waited on me--I moved too slowly. Wonderful memories and I love to pass them on. Robert Autry Brooks
