Autry and Family Born 26 March 1800, in Spartanburg, County, South Carolina, Giles Autry was the son of Alexander Autry (born 1760), North Carolina; died in 1826, in Kentucky and the grandson of Capt. John Autry (born in 1735, in North Carolina; killed and scalped by Indians on 2 February 1788, in Wilkes County, Georgia). Giles Autry was married in Ohio County, Kentucky, on 28 March 1822, to Letitia Ruth Miller. Born 26 March 1803, in Ohio County, Kentucky, Letitia was the daughter of John D. Miller (who signed the marriage bond). Giles, who was administrator of his father Alexander's will in Ohio County, on 26 March 1826, left Kentucky in the late 1830's and moved his family to Scott County, Illinois. He remained there until his migration to Marion County, Iowa, in 1844. (On the 1840 census in Illinois his surname is spelled "Otery," and on the 1850 census of Iowa, it is "Awtry.") Giles Autry died on 11 May 1866, and Letitia on 15 May 1878, both in Marion County, Iowa, where they are buried in Sand Ridge Cemetery (Section 12), Lake Prairie Township. Giles and Letitia Miller Autry were the parent of 10 children.
