    1. [AUTRY GEN LIST] Source of Autre's
    2. I did not recognize the article from Mahan Blair Autry's book. I have read excerpts of the book but not the book itself. I understand that it is available from Higgninson Book Co in Salem, MA. Most people know this company which publishes out of print gen books, and if not, can reach it on the internet. The book is about the descendans of Capt John Autry;, killed by the Creek Indians in GA during the Rev War. It was the first book on the Autry line that I know of. It does have lots of errors in it, per V Mayo Bundy, but then which book doesn't. He did a great service in publising this book. I never knew Blair Autry but spoke with his son in Corsicana, TX. He died in Dec 1997. He said he followed his father thru cemeteries from coast to coast. The son, Dr. James Franklin "Frank" Autry, (DDS) died 11 Dec 1997 per his widow. He was very nice to visit with but had little interest in family history. He had no more books for sale. I sent a copyof the Autry/Culbreth book, 1996, to the Corsicana Library in their memory. In summary, unless someone can find where the Autr*ys first came from to NC?, I fear their is little hope of documenting their origin. "Autre" is apparently a very common French word and name.
