    1. [AUTRY] James Autry Line
    2. The comments by Carolyn Wilcox and Judy Gyllenskog caused me to review the data on the eighth child of William A. Autry and Mary Campbell listed on p. 240 and 330 of our book, Descendants of Cornelius Autry, Immigrant, of Edgecombe County, and Neil Culbreth of Sampson County, North Carolina, and Allied Familes. I assembled the entire Chapter 4, the descendants of James, the son of Elijah, the son of Cornelius the Immigrant, using information from several family historians. As with the rest of the book, neither Mayo nor I made any attempt to document these, although we did list information where available to resolve problems. Several years ago I had received data from Don Heflin and perhaps others that the eighth child was Durgan Autry, b. 1827, married Susan Hedges. But the others who submitted family groups felt that all their information listed the eighth child as James, married first to Susan__, then to Rebecca __ . As noted on p. 329, this seems to be based on the censuses of Obion and Lake Counties, TN, and Scott Co., AR. I tried to contact Don Heflin, but all letters were returned and I could not obtain any further documentation from the other genealogists. With the publication deadline looming, it seemed best to list I.A 8. James and show Durgan as an alternate. There does seem to be evidence that there was both a Durgan and a James, with similar DOB and similar wives names. Whether these are the same or different persons is not apparent. Knowing how often the Autr*ys changed their names, it could be the same person. Perhaps others have additional documentation to resolve this question. If James moved to Scott Co, AR, by 1880, it would place him adjacent to his brother and my GGF, I.A.2. John C. Autry, who is buried Sebastian Co, AR, as shown on p. 276. Scott/Logan county are next to Sebastian Co. and on the OK line of western Arkansas. There are so many James, John, Alexander et al., that it is helpful to have a less common name like Durgan! I hope this explanation helps a little in resolving this question. Robert Autry Brooks <rab55@aol.com>

    2. Judy Gyllenskog
    3. Carolyn, you peaked my interest as my line John C. AUTRY also comes as child of William A Autry and Mary Campbell. Anyhow, I had never heard of J Durgan Autry, so did a little checking in "Descendants of Cornelius Autry, Immigrant, of Edgecombe County, and Neil Culbreth of Sampson County, North Carolina, and Allied Families", by V. Mayo Bundy and Robert Autry Brooks. In Chapter 4, page 240, lists 11 children to William and Mary Autry with no Durgan. However reading further on page 329, I found the following: Listed as child #8 of William and Mary Autry states that James Autry b 1827 in TN died after 1883 m 1st Susan---who d ca 1868 m 2nd Rebecca---10 children. Source: David Autry, RT 2, Box 67, Cordell, OK 73632. Then it say [same page]: "James Autry, born ca. 1827 in TN [?] was one of at least seven children [probably more] of William [b ca 1797 in NC] and Mary-- [b ca 1806]. He m. Susan E. [Barnett/Burnett?] [b 1835 in TN.].......The family lived in Obion and Lake counties of TN from 1849 to ca 1876. Susan evidently died ca 1868, probbly in Obion Co. James then moved his family to Arkansas, residing in Lafave TWP., Scott Coo., as of the 1880 census. Then it goes on to list 10 children of which there isn't a John Green Autry. Source: Maxine Stufflebeam, Ft. Worth, Texas Page 330: Note: Alternate I.A. #8 Durgan Autry. [One source [Don Heflin?] says that child 8 was Durgan Autry b. 1827 who m 10-24-1849 to Susan Hedges and had 7 children. Durgan was killed in Virginia during Civil War. - ------------------------------------------------------------------- Seems the above is conflicting information. Anyway, thought I would let you know what I found. Judy in Oregon

    2. My AUTRY line is: John "Green" Autry b. 5 April 1861 in Weakley Co., TN md. Jude Ann Bradberry in Weakley Co., TN 1888. John Green was the youngest of seven children. His parents were J Durgan Autry b. 1827 in NC md. Susan Hedge in Carroll Co., TN 1849. Susan b. 1829 Carroll Co.,TN, d. 1898 Weakley Co., TN John Durgan or Durgan, as he was called, died in Baltimore, MD. 6 April 1865. Durgan was in the 7th Tn. Cavalry. The information I have seen on the internet about Durgan show his parents to be William A. Autry and Mary Campbell. I would appreciate hearing from anyone that could show me where I might find this information. Thanks, Carolyn Wilcoxen crwil@aol.com

    3. My AUTRY line is from John C. Autry [born NC & died Greenwood, Sebstain Co., Arkansas and probably his 2nd wife Margaret Ann MATTIX Hinds Autry. Their daughter Sarah married 1st William H. PULLEN 1865/1866 Ellis Co. Texas and had 12 children [note the Autry data only lists 1]. However, I have documented 12 as per 1965 interview with Doc PLUMMER PULLEN, my grandfather, who was their youngest son. Anyhow, Sarah later married _______ MILES; _________ Richardson; and Dr Hiram Brown. The latter 3 probably in Carroll Co., ARkansas. No children from any of the other marriages. I am looking for anything on this line. Sarah had a twin sister Margaret and no one seems to know what happened to her. John C. Autry names a "Missouri WELLS" in his will. Anyone know who this is? Thanks for any help. Judy

    3. Hi, everyone. I am descended from Martha B. Autrey, daughter of Cornelius and Elizabeth (of Edgecomb County, NC). Martha married Neil Culbreth, and lived in Sampson County, NC, so I don't take part in many of the discussions and trading of information since my link is pretty far back in the family line.My mother was a Culbreth. If anyone ever traces Cornelius' roots in France, I am certainly interested.I am aware of the castle, but as far as I know, no one has ever established a link. If anyone has good info on Cornelius and the father I have for him, Jeopine Autry, in N.E France, please let me know. Velma Shaw Beale, Ohio
