    1. [AUTRY] Daughtry's
    2. The Taylor's
    3. Fellow researchers.....thanks for the input on this name variation. This certainly is a complicated surname!!!!!!

    1. Re: [AUTRY] Corrections to Autry book
    2. That is a most interesting thought. Knowing how people misspellnames, it is possible that Daughtry got shortened to Aughtey to Autry etc. After all, most of the people were illiterate and scribes wrote the wills, etc. Perhaps Cornelius Autry et al of Edgecombe Co, NC, came via VA, as so many did, and did not enter the country de novo. As Mayo recorded in his books, there were "Autrys" around before Cornelius, but no one knows their descendants etc. Robert Autry Brooks

    1. Re: [AUTRY] Corrections to Autry book
    2. I have read that people think the name was once spelled D'AUTRY etc. but I have never seen documentation. I think one problem is that AUTRY is a French word. I was in Paris last year and it was interesting to see AUTRY on store fronts--with no relation to a surname. Like English names (e.g. Brown, Black, Story etc), many surnames have other meanings. 3. This is an interesting question. My husband has Daughtreys and Daughtrys in his ancestry. The earliest location I have for them is Isle of Wight County, VA in the mid 1700s. They married into families of English descent and I have always assumed they came from England, but I don't really know. In fact, I don't know a lot about them other than some dates and locations. 3. Deaar Marlyne; What a wonderful name! As a result of this incident, I've become the second most loathsome creature I can think of in regard to genealogy work. I'll share info on particular individuals when requested, I'll tell you how I came across the info and where you can get it, or send you copies, I'll sell what I've completed. But I won't download GEDCOM. Let this be a lesson to all of us. By the way, the worst is the genealogy pirate. 3. This question is for anyone who wouldn't mind helping. Andrea's web page refers to various different variations of the name Autry. I am wondering about these names -Dautry, Dautery, Dautrey, Daughtry. I have Daughtry's in my Taylor line and wonder if they are really Autry's. I would really appreciate it if someone could shed some light on this. 3. Thanks Andrea, even though none of these affect my part of the Culbreth line (which could use some updating). Your efforts, nonetheless, are appreciated. 3. I wasn't in on the beginning of this message so I don't know how or why it started. I can add something to this though. I also have had my work put on WFT and other sites. I tell everyone that not everything has been verified and I include it just to see if others can verify it or correct it. Unfortunately these people add it to the internet as is and others take it as fact and continue adding it to internet sites as there work. Some of this information is wrong. I have made corrections but this wrong information continues to perpertuate itself. This makes research for all of us very confusing when we try to put these families together. Right now my Autry family is a mess due to all the wrong information out there. Marlyne --- "JOHN D. 3. Richard, Don't feel like you are the only one that has been duped by a pirate. One of my "cousins" (had never met her) asked me for my work that has been on going for the last ten years. I (dumbly) sent it to her and she posted everything all over WFT, Ancestry.Com and you name it, I didn't want it posted yet because there were some things in it I wanted to prove and back up with the deeds and papers. She entered it and said she had only been doing genealogy for 18 months or something like that. I really burned on that comment. So if you happen to see anything from jshorton its probably mine.
