    2. Marlyne-this is the book I was talking about--I understand what you mean about so much stuff. Work has been busy and gen. has been great lately--need to take a week to catch up with it all!! Pam "There is another book out there that I found on microfilm about the Autry Family. It is AUTRY FAMILY by May Merrill Emory. It contains letter and some genealogy from her Autry relatives. It appears that someone compiled all of this information after she died and self published it. You can order a copy of the microfilm at any Family History Center for $3.75 for 30 days. If you need it longer you can get extentions for a reduced price. After the 3rd extention the microfilm is supposed to stay in the Family History Center indefinitly. The microfilm number is 1318398 and the book is iten 4 on the film. Most of the information in the letters is what these relatives could remember. Some is not accurate and some is confusing, but there is some real interesting information on the people. I especially liked the descriptions of the people. I think many Autry researchers will find this little book very interesting and valuable in their research.

    3. The names in the Autry Family book by May Merrell Emory include: Awtrey, Beall, Camp, Chandler, Cheves, Dingler, Durham, Farmer, Harris, Hill, Hood, Merrell, Swift. There may be others but these are the ones listed in preface. The book starts with Absolom Awtrey, b. abt 1750 in NC, married to Polly (Mary Lucy). The regions covered are North Carolina, Alabama, Georgia for the most part. If anyone is interested in viewing this book, go to any Family History Center and order it on microfilm for $3.75 for 30 days. You can extend your viewing time for less money. After you extend two times it remains in the FHC indefinately at no further charge. --- PaWZake@aol.com wrote: > Marlyne-this is the book I was talking about--I > understand what you mean > about so much stuff. 1. [AUTRY] Autry Roll Call
    2. Hi everyone! Its time to do a roll call again. I like to try and get out my branch on the list at least once a year but I have been busy trying to prune the other branches before they get away from me. <g> So here I go: My family (husband) descends from Micajah Autry, son of Theophilus and Elizabeth (Crumpler) Autry. Micajah was born 1794 or 1795 in Sampson Co., North Carolina. He participated in the War of 1812 when he was 17/18 " he volunteered in Captain Lord's Company and marched to Wilmington when the place was threatened by the British. Afterwards joined the army at Charleston and remained int he service until the peace in the Spring of 1815." In 1823, Micajah moved to Hayesboro, TN, there he studied law and soon became a lawyer. He was admitted to the Bar in Nashville, TN in 1828/29. Micajah married Mrs. Martha Wyche Putney Wilkinson, widow of Dr. Kinchen Wilkinson in Davidson Co., TN on 25 Dec 1823. Micajah volunteered to go to Texas for their cause and to find a better life for his family and ended at the Alamo (in the stockade) where he died a brave fight with all the other men on 6 Mar 1836 against the Spanish army. After he died, Martha moved her family to Holly Springs, MS. Micajah and Martha had 2 children - Mary Elizabeth (born 10 Feb 1827 in Nashville, TN) and James Lockhart (born 8 Jan 1830). My family descends through Mary Elizabeth. She married James Madison Greer in Holly Springs, MS on 23 Dec 1844. I am looking for any descendants of siblings Mary Elizabeth Autry and James Lockhart Autry. I look forward to hearing from any and all Warmly, Sara Greer

    3. Sarah, there are several entries at the museum at the Alamo in San Antonio,TX about Micajah Autry , including letters he wrote and received from his wife. We went there in 1970's and saw a portrait also hanging on the walls. The daughters of the Alamo runs this site and the web site is www.drtl.org/geninfo.html . I have not been on this site in about 6 months, but I got a lot of info from them and the library. They also have a family registry there that has stories and signatures of members of the family that have visited etc. ,many that have since died themselves. Good luck! 1. [AUTRY] FROM THE LIST MODERATOR
    2. Andréa
    3. I mentioned a few days ago that we're not to discuss this anymore on the Autry list. There are generalized genealogy lists if you want to talk about general genealogy problems like this. I meant what I said about removing people from the list if they continue on this thread, so this is the final warning. If you need to talk to one another about it, please do it in a private forum (like e-mailing each other directly!), or on another list. Thank you for understanding and for not posting about this subject anymore. Andrea
