    3. Jannine, this is all very sketchy at best but maybe will be of some help to you. I have a Frederick Autry Nov 14, 1772 married to an Elizabeth Hampden about 1794 in NC. They had a son named Isham B. Autry born on March 11, 1817 Sampson County. Frederick had a brother named Elijah B Autry b1765. No parents listed for either Frederick or Elijah. Elijah had a son named William A Autry born 1784 married to Mary Campbell and they had a son named Elijah Henry Autry born 1813. Elijah Henry had a son named William Elijah Autry born 1848 who had a son named Delbert Autry who was born in 1886. I know this is a long line! Here is the clincher..... Delbert Autry is the father of Orvon Gene Autry. I wish I could give you more on this but I found it in some of my old records as I too have an Isham in my line. Good hunting! Marshall Autry

Van Noppen, Greensboro, NC, 1908), Vol. I, p. 4: The 6th (of July, 1585) Master John Arundall was sent to the main and Manteo with him; and Captain Autry and Captain Boniton the same day were sent to Croatoan, where they found two of our men left there with thirty others by Captain Raymond twenty days before. The 8th Captain Autry and Captain Boniton returned with two of our men, found by them, to us at Wocokon (present Ocracoke Inlet). The colony under Master Ralph Lane stayed at Roanoke Island from August 17, 1585 to June 18, 1586, returning to England with the fleet of Sir Francis Drake. 3. Family Treemaker 200 Years of Ancestors 1706, June 7: King William County, Virginia Thomas MackGehee, Samuel Norment and William Lacey are sworn as appraisers of the estate of Alexander Autry, the value of which they place at 4000 pounds of tobacco. 5. The Arrival of the Autry's - Bundy and Brooks, 1996, Page 2 Before we assign all Autry's in America to Cornelius, Immigrant, we need to look at the earlier record in North Carolina records of Alex Autray. Could it be that he is our immigrant since he was here 16 yeas before Cornelius? Could Cornelius be his son or brother? At a council held at the 5th of June, 1740, Present His Excellency the Governor and The Honorable North Rice, Robt. Halton, Math Brown, Roger Moore, Eleazx Allen, Alex Autray was granted 110 acres in Beaufort County, (Colonial Records of North Carolina, Vol. 4, p.454). Since an Alex Autray received land 16 years before a known record of Cornelius Autry receiving land in 1756, it would appear that Alex Autray, not Cornelius may have been our progenitor if he had children. The Cornelius who received land in 1756 may have been his son. This recent information is in conflict with the generally accepted and published theory that all Autry's are descendants of Cornelius Autry of Edgecombe County. Alex Autray had to have been born no later than 1719 to have been 21 by 1740 when he received 110 acres in Beaufort Co., the age required to receive land grants. There were no Autry's in Beaufort Co., listed in the 1790 census, but there was a James Ottery (Autry) with a wife and son under 16 listed in the 1790 census for Beaufort Co. who may have been Alexander's son.

We do have them in the 1910 Indian Territory OK census. Clif has been a MUCH more diligent researcher than I over the past several months due to a variety of reasons: (a) I'm in the throws of a very difficult genealogy certification course and it's taking a huge amount of my time; (b) my Mother has been somewhat ill for about 8 months and had back surgery in November, so that takes a lot of my time; and (c) our daughter is getting married in less than 2 months and the wedding planning is killing me! I sincerely hope that no one takes my lack of research in the past several months as a lack of interest or willingness. Mother was adopted by the Autrys and absolutely worshipped her adopted father, Earl Buel Autry. So while she is not a "blood descendant," she certainly views the Autry line as her own. Unfortunately, I do not know yet where they were in Arkansas, but only that Loucinda was born there. Clif may know more as he has been very active, very diligent and very successful over the past few months. He probably thinks I've died or something! Clif is in Dallas. If we all find that we are linked in the same family, we should think about trying to meet up someday soon. Tell me more about your line, okay? I only have from George Columbus (and not very much about him) down, which I would happily share with you if you are interested in that. Let me hear from you. What say you, Clif? How's it going? 3. Marshall: I am looking for any information on Mary Autry/Autrey, b. abt. 1795, d. 1888-1896, who married Joseph Darnall/Darnell, b. abt. 1783, d. 7 Apr 1856. I have not been able to find a record of the marriage and have no date for it; however, it may have been bef. 1813. I believe she is the Mary Darnell who married Euclidas Longshore on 10 Dec 1857 in Chambers Co, AL. Euclidas was born 23 Oct 1792 and died 10 Mar 1861 in, probably, Randolph Co, AL. There is a Joseph in the Tax Digest for Clarke Co, GA, in 1805, and for Putnam Co, GA, in 1815. My Joseph may have lived in Greene Co, GA in 1820, and was on the 1830 Census in Morgan Co, GA. He moved with his wife and children to Troup Co, GA, by 1840, and to Randolph Co, AL by 1850. Joseph died 7 Apr 1856 in Randolph Co, AL (not in 1850 in Chambers Co, AL, as reported in some sources). Barefield, Marilyn Davis, Historical Records of Randolph County, Alabama 1832-1900, (Southern Historical Press, 1985), p. 101, notice published in "The American Eagle," 10 Apr 1856, "Joseph Darnall, 74 years old, died in Roanoke on the 7th. Was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church. Was survived by his wife and children." If anyone can help with this family, I would be very grateful. ____________________ Bill King williamking@mediaone.net ____________________

    2. That's the Daughters of the Republic of Texas who run they Alamo. They were solely responsible for saving it from destruction and for its preservation. The State of Texas keeps trying to take it away from them and put it under the auspices of (I believe it is) the Texas Parks System. I think that would be an insult and a travesty. They do a beautiful job, and I'm glad someone on this list found their efforts useful.

    2. Hello everyone; Yes It was the Mexican Army led by General Santa Ana. I appologize with the wrong army. The Christening dress was made by Martha W. Autry for Hal Wyche Greer and it is at the Alamo. If you are interested in locating the letters they are housed at Rice University in Texas. I have copies of them as well. This line is very well documented and I collected quite a bit of them. There are a couple gedcoms floating around out there that has Micajah Autry listed as son of Cornelius Autry. This is wrong. Micajah is the son of Theophilus Autry. Cornelius Autry did have a son named Micajah, but he was born around 1819 (I believe) and he was named for his uncle Micajah. Warmly, Sara Greer
