Hi Jimmy - I received the info. I really don't have anything to add. I am searching for my ggrandparent unknown Autry. Mr. Autry was b: AR and Mrs. Autry b: TN according to the 1900 census for Paragould, Greene Co., AR. These folks are like they just dropped into existance. Of course, as we all need the 1890 census, we have to try other avenues. I have absolutely no idea who Lula and Anne Autrys parents are or the unknown grandmother who raised them. I do have a photo of the 3 of them prior to Lula's marriage in 1898 in Greene Co., AR. Thanks, I will keep you address to advise you if I find anything. Margaret

Does anyone have the names of John C. Autry's children? I am searching for the parents of Lula Francis Autry and her sister Anne Autry. They were raised by their unknown grandmother. Lula was born in Aug. 1883 and was married in Greene Co., AR. In the 1900 census, I believe, she indicated that her father b: AR and mother b: TN. Any info on the parents or grandmother would be greatly appreciated - thanks - Margaret Pickens

The pedigree is a good outline. Some of it may have come from the Autry/Culbreth book that Mayo Bundy and I published. There is a correction in the line of: 2.James 3. Elijah 4. William 5.John C. Autry After publication, information became available that John C had married second: Margaret Ann Mattux (Hinds) in Crawford Co., Ark, in 1846. So Cynthia Ann Weldon (my ancestor) was his third wife. I have never found the name of the first wife; he probably married in TN before 1830 and she died before 1846, explaining the gap in ages of some of the children. TN marriage records seem to begin in 1832. These and several corrections to the book have been submitted previously to the Autry web page. Robert Autry Brooks

This Green Awtry in 1850 Coosa Co., AL was a son of Isaac and Arminta Bankston Awtry from Georgia. He moved his family from Coosa Co., AL to Mississippi. Jimmy, at least part of your info to Jannine is incorrect. Isham that was born in 1750 is my GGGgrandfather and is the son of Conelius Sr. Cornelius Jr was only 3 years old at this time. Marshall Autry

I think that we all would like to know the history of the Autry family prior to Cornelius. I do believe that the name originated in France. In the language, "Autre" means "other " or "another" and it would seem probable that it developed as did many surnames to distinguish people with the same given name. I would question whether or not the "home" of the Autry family in France has been established. Several years ago, I used a gazette to locate towns with the name Autry in France. When I visited in Paris, I obtained detailed, regional maps of the areas where a location with the name Autry/Autrey was found: Here are a few: One in the Voges Region: Three in the Haute-Saone Region ( including a wooded area named "Ft d' Autrey): Autry in Meuse near the Argonne Forest: Autry le Chatel in Cher. Most of these are located in the northeast of France. There are also a number of places with the prefix autre such as "Autreville sur la Renne" which just might mean "the other village". My French is pretty limited! I would love to see each and every one of these places! In the meanwhile, I hope that we will all keep searching and sharing. It sounds logical but I wonder if anyone has any documentation of the relation of Jeopine Autry with his relation to Cornelius the immigrant, and any record of his birth or passage to America I don't know how common the name Autry/d'Autry is in France. Hi I am wondering if anyone has any information on Harpie Autry born 1816 in NC ( I think Sampson Co NC) ? I have done all of the census work and it seems to me that Sampson Autry was her father. Does anyone have a line on this family? I tried to follow all of the Aurtys that could be her father and I thing that I have eliminated all but 4 possibilities Sampson Autry Newsome Autry Robert Autry -least likely James Autry In the 1850 census Sampson who was in his 70's-80's & was Living next door to Harpie (in her 40's)who was married to Malcolm Darroch.
