    2. I wonder if the Hiram A Autry mentioned by Pam Lain could be son of John C Autry? Although the birth date is too early per the info that I had in the Culbreth/Autry book. Per the obituary on Cynthia Ann Weldon Autry, she died in the home of her son Hiram A Autry in Wynnewood OK in 1907. See p. 285. He was born 1872 per census records, and I have nothing more on his family. Many of these children went to OK when it was Indian Territory. So records are not very good. Robert Autry Brooks

    1. [AUTRY] Vina Mae Meine
    2. I feel a personal loss in learning of the death of Mrs. Vina Mae Meine. We have lost an energetic family historian. Vina Mae was a great help to me in compiling information for the Autry/Culbreth book of 1996. I do not recall how I learned of her. She sent me many family group sheets. I would call her to straighten out problems and questions. I never met her personally but it was not hard to see her great interest in the Autry family. The obituary notes her association with the Texas Revolution. Many do not realize that the Autry clan were present at that time, other than Micajah perhaps. Vina Mae and Frank had a trailer, or motor home, and would travel to a place where she wanted to investigate family history and live there while she was doing her research work. She sent me information from her work in Alabama and Mississippi, much of which I did not have space to include. Their picture is in the book on page 344. I knew she had been ill but had not heard of Frank's death. We have lost a true "Autry cousin". I will miss her but appreciate having known her. 2. Mrs. Frank Meine, 79, nee Vina Mae Tumlinson of Fredericksburg died Saturday, April 5, 2003, at Hill Country Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were held Monday, April 7, at 1 p.m., in the chapel of Beckmann Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Altman officiating. Nina Pruitt was the organist, and Dr. Rollie Blondeau, the vocalist. Interment followed in the Greenwood Cemetery. Mrs. Meine was born Oct. 24, 1923, in Hallettsville, the daughter of John M. Tumlinson and Lucile Autry Tumlinson. She married Frank F. Meine on June 27, 1941, in Houston and he preceded her in death on March 26, 2003. She was a member of a number of organizations, including the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Daughters of the Republic of Texas and a lifetime member and past president of the Fredericksburg Parent Teacher Association (PTA). She was also a former administrator and Girl Scout leader, and an active member of the United Methodist Women, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Descendants of Austin’s Old 300. Mrs. Meine was also a member of the Former Texas Ranger’s Association and through genealogical research learned that 17 family members were listed among the first Texas Rangers, one of which was the first Texas Ranger and the first Texas Ranger to die in the line of duty. Survivors include two daughters and one son, Lucile Dilling of San Antonio, George Meine of Fredericksburg and Deborah Wilson of San Antonio. She is also survived by three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two half-sisters, Dorothy Teague of Houston and Lillie Lee Pearson of Dale. 3. Sara - As you know, I've privately offered my opinion on how this would be best handled, and I have offered help in setting it up in a true relational database, which has been declined. I also understand that you and Andrea don't feel comfortable using an actual database, and wish to use a static spreadsheet (MS Excel) for storing this possibly massive amount of data. In handling situations similar to this professionally, a couple of questions have come to mind. I hope you don't mind me asking--not only for my understanding, but for everyone's. 1. What are the plans for publishing (in HTML for Web viewing), sorting and searching within the data, and general access for everyone to use? 2. How are you going to handle changes to any documentation? How often will the spreadsheet be updated? 3. What about future requirements to change the format or content of the data? 4. What provisions have been taken to ensure that any changes that might make sense in the future will not impact the current data which has been collected? 5. As all genealogists know, published data is not always accurate, what are the processes for disputing sources and data which have been published in this spreadsheet? 2. Andrea
    3. Scott, your help wasn't declined. I told you less than two hours ago when you wrote to me privately that I would think about it for a few days. I am not uncomfortable using a database, I have simply not decided how I want to handle the data yet but expect to resolve that matter shortly. ------------------- If anyone has further questions about this, contact me privately - do not send messages to the list. ------------------- 1. This will be decided when we decide what type of database program we want to use to do this. Most of my friends are programmers, so finding someone to build us a Microsoft Access database wouldn't be a big deal. If anyone would like to make alternative suggestions for a database program to use, please contact me privately at autrey@serv.net . 2. Since these are shown as primary sources "So and so's birthdate is found on this birth certificate, found at such and such courthouse on this date, etc. etc.", any conflicting sources we find will be shown along with the originals as alternative information. The spreadsheet will be updated whenever possible. We would have no reason to delay putting new information online. Of course, if someone would like to pay me to do this as a full time job . . . . :) (just kidding, folks!) 3. This will depend on the database program we choose to use. My answer to question applies to this as well. 4. Please refer to my answer for question 2. 5. Also, refer to my answer for question 2. We are trying to collect PRIMARY source data. If data is secondary, we will make a special notation that it is secondary. -----Original Message----- From: White, Scott E [mailto:scott.e.white@lmco.com] Sent: Tuesday, April 15, 2003 11:25 AM To: AUTRY-L@rootsweb.com Subject: RE: [AUTRY] Sources and Documentation of Autrys Sara - As you know, I've privately offered my opinion on how this would be best handled, and I have offered help in setting it up in a true relational database, which has been declined. Both girls were raised by the grandmother - not sure which side and have no name. We have no idea of who the parents are of the girls are. Lula married Charles Franklin (C.F.) Both Charles and Lula died sometime between 1910 and 1917 but are not on the Arkansas Death Index. Charles and Lula had 3 daughters, Eva Wilda Browning b: 1901 in Paragould; Edith Myrl Browning b: about 1905 in Hermitage and Mildred Marie Browning b: 1908 in Jonesboro. After the parents died, the girls were placed in the Baptist Orphanage in Drew Co., AR. Mildred was adopted? in 1917 by Mr. & Mrs. C.W. Traylor or Drew Co.; Edith left the orphanage and lived with the Andersons in Bradley Co. in the 1920 census and Eva was with the O'Neal family as a boarder in 1920 census in Tulsa Co., OK. The records from the orphanage were destroyed and the only info they have is they thought that Charles and Lula were buried in Jonesboro. So far, I have found no listing for them in the cemeteries online and through the Jonesboro Cemetery Dept. If anyone has info on the parents, grandmother, girls, please let me know - It's been a long search with very little found. ALL HELP IS APPRECIATED - thanks for your help - Margaret Pickens

    1. [AUTRY] Sources and Documentation of Autrys
    2. Hi everyone; I wish to thank all who responded to me personally and on the list about gathering sources and documentation. After getting a "feel" for what to do, this is how I am planning on initially setting up the database. You can submit your sources and documentation to me at sjgreer30@aol.com. The database should be simple and easy to read so I figured the best way to present them would be like so: Name (of the person the source is for) Source (Bibliography/microfilm, of the source) Documentation of the Source (brief paragraph of documentation. For example - this source was submitted: Autery, Absolam Bulletin of the Genealogical Society of Old Tryon County, Vol. 25, No. 1 (February 1997) page 14 (Rutherford Co., N.C. Deed Book 12:45)] Absolam Autery of "Moor" County, N.C., purchased two tracts of land in Rutherford County, N.C., from John Leatherman on 15 Dec. 1798, paying $300. The land was described as 120 acres on Webbs Creek, joining William Webb and Brens, part of 250 acres granted to John Webb 22 Aug. 1795; also 100 acres on Webbs Creek, joining John Webb and William Webb, which was granted to John Webb 13 Dec. 1767. Witness was David McDow. We are not putting up entire wills and probates, just a brief paragraph on the source. As time goes by, maybe we could provide links to the actual scanned document of public records. Sara J. Greer Clark County, OHGenWeb Coordinator http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohclark

    1. [AUTRY] Jacob Awtrey Bible
    2. Marlyne Natali
    3. Several years ago I corresponded with a man by the name of Tony Huggins who said that he had the Jacob Awtrey Bible in his possession. Later I corresponded with a lady who said that she saw the Jacob Awtrey Bible in the Georgia Archives and made a copy of the family page. I have heard from others that the Bible is in the Georgia Archives. Is there anyone on the list who lives and Georgia and might be able to see if the Jacob Awtrey Bible is really in the Georgia Archives, make a photo copy of the page or pages of family information and share these copies with with us as documentation for the Autrey book? __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? 1. [AUTRY] Re: p 6
    2. Re Pat Autry's comments re deeds on p. 6. All these pages are from Cousin Mayo Bundy, and probably are the same as in previous books. It sounds as if he is referring to Sampson Co but I do not know for sure. Mayo collected this info over 60 years and some of the sources had expired! He said that he did not have time or space to document the info, but would record it to give others some place to look! And I suspect that happened here. I think the idea of a place to record , and correct, all the necessary documention is an excellent one. Robert Autry Brooks
