Listed on page 336 of the Washington, Porter, Indiana census there's a farm hand named John Autery with a birthplace listed as "Ireland". Has anyone else heard of this person? He was 35 years old at the time, which would place him born about 1825. He was a farm hand in the household of John and Hannah Hanford. Andréa

Autry (b.1858 d.1933) and Lillian Watson Autry (b. 1873 d.1962) who are buried at Oakfield Cemetery in Madison County, Tennessee. My Dad died in 1965 of a "Massive Coronary Occlusion". The papers said it was the longest funeral procession Oak Cliff had ever known. He received an honorary salute from the South Oak Cliff Police force. He was a HIGHLY respected man (Methodist) and very much a GIVER. Andrea is quite correct. If one waited until all of the information was documented, a book would never get published. Most of the book was from information collected by V. Mayo Bundy over 60 years. He had previously published two Autrey books and a revision. He was past 80 when the book was assembled and died before it was published. I hope we made it clear in the intro that this was material submitted by others, some of whom had died by the time of publication. Even in chapter 4, James A, which I worked on, I found corrections shortly after the book was published and added some of these to the copy that I sent to Andrea to put on the internet. The entire Culbreth/Autry book 1996, can be obtained in copy from Higginson Book Co., Salem, MA. And the book on Capt John Autry by his descendant Mahan Blair Autry can also be obtained from them. I do not have a copy but Cousin Mayo felt there mistakes in it also. Too many Autrey's were named Corneliius, Alexander, John, etc. to keep them straight. And they never stayed long in one place! I have Jacob Brown Autry as being born in 1817 inHardeman County, Tenn. He was married to Mary Embry in 1841 in Tippah County, Miss had no children listed. Jacob Brown was the son of Jacob born 1780 in Wilkes County, Ga. His wife was Elizabeth Cook. He was one of nine(9) children namedWilliam, David, Miles, James, Mary, Thirsey, John and Lemuel. This son William was born Spartanburg County, SC in 1805 and died in 1884 in Grass Valley, Ca. He was married to Sophia Wells and they had no children listed. Hope this might help. Marshall
