Surnames: AUTREY, AUTRY, PHILLIPS Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/idB.2ACEB/249 Message Board Post: Seeking information on Nancy Ann AUTREY, a white female aged 85, who died or was buried on 09 DEC 1926 near the Water Works in (now Columbus) Muscogee Co, GA. A record of this death is on file with the Columbus Health Department (Death Records, Vol. 3, 1916-38, record #3190). I am interested in learning more about Nancy and whether she is buried in the Clapp's Factory Cemetery. Note that the city water works facility, established in 1913 at Clapp Hill, took in part of the old Clapp's Factory mill village. She is perhaps Nancy AUTRY, age 38, b. GA, in the household of husband Andrew, a farmer, on p. 522B in the Nances Dist. of Muscogee Co, GA, 1880; they have nine children in their household. They could easily be Andrew J. AUTRY and Nancy Ann PHILLIPS, who m. 22 JAN 1858 in Harris Co, GA. Next door in 1880 is the family of William & Clara AUTRY, probably a brother to Andrew. An LDS record says William AUTRY m. ca. 1866 in Columbus, Muscogee Co, GA, to Clara PHILLIPS. I would appreciate any information on this family and their kin. I will be glad to share what information I have about Clapp's Factory.

    2. Richard, Long time no talk, but just got this in my email. Thought I'd let you know that the pic you are showing as John E. Autry is not who I was told it was. I have this pic too. My G-Uncle J.E. Autry brought this same pic in an oval frame to my 2nd cousin's home at a funeral occassion and told me it was his dad, my G-Grandfather William Edward Autry. Thought I'd let you know. Respectfully, Pat Powers Harshbarger Grandmother Florence Pearl Autry Holt daughter of William Edward Autry and Jimmie F. Clark

Surnames: AUTRY,SHORB,BRIDGES,WILDER Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/idB.2ACEB/248 Message Board Post: Lillie Autry- Thought to have married John Shorb prob. around 1894 in AR (he was living in Boone Co. in 1880 with his family) Children: Mathew David b 1895 GA; Noley b ?; William Dewey b. 1899 TX. Her name was found with her son's name in a Shorb family Bible and not much else known. After John Shorb died she left her two sons with families in the Fannin Co., TX area and went to Kansas (or so we were told but don't know why or where). He daughter Noley married a McNutt and had at least one boy, Raymond and apparently she remarried later to a Harmon. One of our researcher's father received a letter from her post marked Garfield, KN in the 60's. I believe that Lillie Autry might have been born in GA and possibly married in GA as my grandfather's death cert. listed Atlanta, GA as his birth place (Mathew D. Shorb). Any information on Lillie would be appreciated.

    3. I've added some photos to my web page about my 2-great grandfather John English Autry. The tintype which I believe to be of him... I don't know for sure that it is of him, but in reading about tintype dating the best advice I could find said that clothing was the best guide to the age of a tintype, and so far as I am aware the clothing shown in this photo is clearly ante-bellum. Other advice was that folks in ante-bellum photos tended to have "messy" hair... and that seems to fit too. It is combed, but still a bit wild. The photo was found in an old house, not the "Old Autry place" that stood south of Whigham, GA, till only a handful of years ago, and was in my childhood the home of my great uncle Henry Haire. Instead, it was found at the nearby "Old Haire place". My mother and grandmother (Mary Lee Haire/Davis... daughter of James Daniel Haire and Forest Preselle Autry) lived there during W.W.I while my grandfather went from Arcadia, Florida, to Dothan, Alabama, and took a job in a munitions factory there to avoid the draft. From the fact that the grave stone that was never placed on 2-great grandpa Autry's place of burial was found there, and from bits of information dropped from time to time by my mother, I believe that Mary McQueen Autry, John English Autry's widow (who died in 1920), spent her final years at the Old Haire place.. thus it would seem reasonable that she brought her husband's photograph there with her. I am interested in hearing back from others having Autry ancestors, if they find that the face seen in the tintype closely resembles any other Autrys... See: http://pone.com/ts/rw002.htm RW P.S. There are "dead links" at the foot of the page. I know that and at this point don't really care. I've gotten tired of chasing shifting URLs all around the web.

Surnames: Autry, Lane, Cherry, Peters, Womack Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/idB.2ACEB/223.1.1.2.1 Message Board Post: Hello Marge - Yes, we have talked before and I am in Okla. Lots of folks list our James as a son of William and Mary Autry Campbell. I wish he were.....it would simplify things tremendously. Unfortunaltely for us, I have found no evidence that William A. is his father. Everything points to Mary Lane of Hickman Co., Tn. being his mom, not Mary Campbell. Granville's Civil War record lists him being born in Hickman Co., Tn. I have found nothing that mentions James (b.1742) as ever living there. Everything I've seen indicates William A. was born 1784 or so. Our William, per the family bible, says 1794/6. I just don't think it's the same person. I would be very interested in comparing notes on our research of this line, should you be interested. David

Anyway, I have ran across this same problem. After comparing genologies I am wondering if this is William A and Mary Campbell instead of Lane. His son was James and had a son Powhatten. Powhattan was also my ggggrandmothers brother. She is Nancy Autry. Also Nancy had a brother, Granville, and I noticed that Mary Campbell was also born in Granville County Noth Carolina. The dates pretty much stack as far as Williams birthdate and James birthdate, just a little off. So either James shouldln't be one of William A children or he is not Nancy's brother. Do you have any thoughts on this. Thanks, Marge
