    3. Thanks, Allen. I'm just now appreciating how important getting, saving, and transferring the lab specimen is to my "spiel". I stress the importance of getting the oldest people tested, due to the dilution effect of distant ancestors with each generation. I'd like to also present what people's options are for at least getting the sample, somehow, and having it available when time, technology and/or funds present themselves. Many of the questions I get are along the lines of "can they get DNA from (fill in the blank)?" To my knowledge, of the 4 involved in genetic genealogy, only FT DNA will take 'non-standard issue' samples. I'm also very intent on talking to and encouraging genealogists to take a DNA test as they are the ones with the paperwork, will appreciate the potential for solving brick walls/mysteries, will take satisfaction in seeing possible genetic proof of their years of "lineage" work, and -- perhaps most importantly -- will not balk at the hard work (and expense) required to make best use of autosomal testing. I agree....need to add to my table the options for obtaining samples, and keeping them viable (and transferring). I also need to find out if, when transferring to FT DNA, you are transferring data or the raw results. I'm a bit leery of recommending Gedmatch to others without fully understanding what is being passed on, although I use it and mention it (with caution). Thanks for the input. Great thoughts.
