Dear Emily, We have about 200 people in the Low German Mennonite DNA project who have done Family Finder, 23andMe, and/or AncestryDNA. See http://kquilting.homeserver.com/23andme/index.html. Wayne Kauffman processes the raw data files and generates an Excel file that contains all of the HIRs that are thought to be IBD among the participants. Some people are analyzing the data on their own. The eventual goal is to eventually build DNA profiles for as many of the original Mennonite settlers in Russia as feasible. We will need to have many more people tested before we can do that to any extent. I want to eventually automate that entire process, but haven't had enough time to develop the software to do that. I'm looking for admins who run autosomal DNA projects (Family Finder, DNA Relatives, AncestryDNA) to learn about how you structure them. Many thanks! Emily
Dear Tim, I've been wondering. Do we need to know we have Mennonite ancestry to join that project, or would joining give a clue whether it might exist? I've been curious whether my family might have Mennonite Huebner connections, especially as we have Russian DNA matches, but we haven't yet been able to locate the Huebner emigrants in the area they claimed to come from (Posen, specifically Polajewo). There's a Mennonite project at FTDNA that always pops up as a suggestion for my family due to the Huebner surname.
